What a reductionist way to put things. It's not a catch-all term in the least. I think it's been very clearly stated and observed that they're a fringe group of the far left. The issue is that they are a leftist group, but the left in general refuses to denounce them. So it isn't that people are calling all leftards ANTIFA, it's that you can't let something tangentially linked to your group continue to metastasize and not yourself be put under intense scrutiny. Furthermore, I would hardly call a violent group just a "bunch of dumb white kids", allot of them are dumb white kids, but that doesn't take away from the violence and threats they've taken part in.
They're real, and they are a terrorist organization.
