If it hadn't been this dude, it definitely would've been someone else. The media had been priming for a white-on-black violence shitshow since Arbery a couple of weeks ago.

9/11 seemed Clown World for me at the time, but in sort of a positive way, if that makes any sense. The country was devastated and paranoid, yet optimistic. We didn't know if there would be another attack or if Anthrax [not the band] would cause a pandemic, but we also couldn't foresee the endless War on Terror, the political divide, the race riots, the mass shootings, or the Corona-chan lockdowns. If anything, it was just a moment of Americans being shocked in horror but revved up to avenge the Twin Towers.
