What they don't understand (but would if they weren't so ignorant and uneducated) is that the abolition of police would create a power vacuum, and there's no guarantee that whatever force occupies that vacuum will be something they like.

Maybe they think that once abolished Queen Hillary Uncle Joe will replace the police with federalized peacekeepers, all of which are vetted for political and temperamental conformity.

I've not interacted with any of them in person thankfully, but I have done so plenty online and yeah, they can't be reasoned with, they can't be bargained with.

The patterns of history are a bitter pill to swallow, but it's one that has to be taken if you plan to do anything other than screech about your chosen boogeyman for the rest of your life. Even if the gamers rose up and restored America today, we would only be starting the cycle all over again until one day our descendants have to walk the same path. The question that you will then have to answer for yourself is if even that temporary fix will be worth it.

There's no way it won't escalate now that there's a body count, especially since there's cops included, but I'm still staunchly against the use of military force on our shores. Deal with individual criminals, don't make sweeping policies that catch up a bunch of innocent people and crush liberties for everyone. The worst thing possible to respond with would be some national level responses that interfere with rights and liberties of communities that don't even have riots ongoing in them, and even a proportional response to riots is extremely dangerous. Power used on looters can be power used on anyone else.

Fentanyl depresses the brainstem, which controls breathing. This is how people die from fentanyl ODs, like Dolores O'Riordan of the Cranberries. Floyd may not have had a sufficient amount in his system to cause an OD, but he probably did have enough where the brainstem was affected. Add the pressure that Chauvin added to that area of the neck, and it was probably enough to send him into cardiac arrest because he stopped breathing. But would Chauvin know that Floyd had fentanyl in his system? Of course not. Floyd also had methamphetamine in his system, which in combination with the fentanyl and the physical stress of being restrained, could have caused a heart attack. Again, Chauvin would not know this. Add to this that the Minneapolis police force had authorized use of neck restraint as a tactic to subdue a non-compliant arrest, then Chauvin cannot be found guilty of even 3rd degree murder by an impartial jury. The most that he should get on this charge would be manslaughter -- and the video that shows Floyd resisting arrest will be another mitigating factor for Chauvin. This is devastating news for the prosecution. The official ruling of homicide will be destroyed by a competent defense attorney once the ME is on the witness stand.

There's no such thing as an impartial jury, and even if their were, you won't find one after this. A half decent prosecutor who knows how to appeal to the jury's emotions has it in the bag simply because the cop in question has a history and the video itself is damning. You can argue all you want about how the cop just didn't know how sensitive Floyd was, when there's a video everyone can see of him weakly begging for his life while the cop callously ignores him, no expert witness is getting that cop off. Juries are humans, not computers. Even if you find a bunch of totally impartial people uninfluenced by things like BLM you'll also have to assume they're not a bunch of people out of cop families. That's why if they were even pretending the riots were still about George it'd be ridiculous. As soon as he was fired and arrested and bound for trial, the rest is a foregone conclusion. This guy's reckless and excessively forceful treatment of suspects and criminals finally caught up to him.

I've heard that idea being floated before, that the goal is to abolish police at the local/state level and move it to a federal level. Presumably the next step would be a global police force. It sounds a bit nuts, but a frightening number of predictions that I thought were nuts at the time have either come to pass or are within sight.

Brazil has already been down this path in the 90s/2000s during their period of socialist rule. And, well, we all know how that turned out. It's part of the reason Brazil is the way it is today, despite a lot of progress being made towards development during the early junta years (i.e. the "Brazil Miracle"). After years of unfathomable levels of violence and lawlessness and contributing more than half the videos on gore websites, the Car Wash scandal was the straw that broke the camel's back and made them abandon the socialists. Then, they voted in Bolsonaro, and things are just now starting to barely get better, but there are already concerted efforts to try to get him out and bring back the way things were before.
Brazil may never regain the momentum they had in the mid-20th century for years if not decades (if ever). Once you go down the Brazil Path (and Brazil is just one example), there is no turning back.
