Why does Tumblr have an obsession with vitiligo?

  • Suicide Girl model and America's Next Top Model contestant have it, spread on Tumblr, that's why.

Hope someone didn’t already post this but I’m presenting my first offering to this thread.
The Harley isn’t too bad but that Ivy...

This post made me think...is there EVER a good transgender protagonist or villain in media that doesn't focus solely on their ~~~transness~~~? The last time I remember it being done well enough was probably...wow, it's been so long ago that I can't remember.
Does Ranma count? No wait he changes back...
Nuriko from Fushiji Yuugi? No, because accepting himself as a man is part of his character arc...
Miyuki from Yu Yu Hakusho?
Also I am old.

(I'm guessing giving Ivy an afro is to make her look black or sumthin)
wanna see my sick impression:
'Ivy's design dehumanises black people, as her skin is green and unnatural!! And Harley is a portrayal of blacks being clowns and her makeup is an homage to black face!!1! Her primarily two-tone colour scheme is a reference to racial segregation!! This is racist and sexist, as Ivy is comfortable in her femininity and plays upon sex appeal!! REEE!!!'

Speaking of genderswaps, I remember when that use to be all rage back in the day. Man, if only we knew what would happen later.

I'm surprised that the community in general on sites like tumblr are so against genderbents. If anything, they're a safe way to express yourself because art is a form of expression. Who's to say some kid can't draw himself as man, woman, etc for the hell of it? It's a perfectly acceptable and fun way to explore your identity and those creative outlets (love them or hate them) are important to our growth. You can't really have creative growth when you're worried about constantly offending people.

Maybe that's why the same topics cycle over and over again. Creativity is constantly stifled under these harsh restrictions put out by others. As a result, no one leaves their comfort zone because they're too worried about offending others or experimenting for themselves. It's a vicious cycle that beats down everyone who subjugates others for it.

Maybe that's also why these people freak out at people drawing NSFW and exaggerated proportions too. It's not just the subject matter, but the fact that these subjects are mostly free from those restrictions. They don't have to worry about others telling them what they're doing is problematic either. They're essentially free to be creative while they have to worried about getting cancelled/upsetting people. It's like they're always on edge waiting for the next person to drag down thinking it will make them the most virtuous person possible. It's sad.

I have to wonder if it's some form jealously or anger that they're lashing out on other artists, even those that follow their own rules. I can't for certain, but it makes having apathy for them much more satisfying when they learn their "cancelling" tactics don't work on certain people.

God, I used to have this fear and it used to heavily affect how I wrote my stories. Now that I've read things like Berserk and Battle Royale, I'm happy to include grotesque elements in my (current) story, because that's how the world can be; awfully horrific, with only solace to help you. LOL sorry for the 3edgy5me but that's the kinda message I wanna communicate with my characters, just shine on the ugly and beautiful aspects of humanity that ties everything together. Still worried that when I make fake promo art once everything is coherent people will be like 'aye bruh tf'

Godspeed @VforVincent , good on you for getting the courage and I hope you enjoy making your story!

To be fair, this is not the first case of this happening. Was talking with my folks and Rodney King came up as an example. There are plenty more, but it also starts to show how vicious of a cycle this is:

-->Some asshole cop who abuses the system to gain power kills a black guy/girl ruthlessly
-->People are outraged
-->Cops try use black person's criminal status to alleviate some of the blame instead of prosecuting said asshole cop
-->Pisses off more people who are rightfully upset
-->People begin to get antsy due to a lack of community trust/cooperation
-->Riots/Protests/Chaos breaks out
-->Virtue signalling galore (includes celebs, e-celebs and crappy commercials)
-->Everything dies down after there's nothing else to destroy and tensions alleviate
-->People are left to collect what remains of their homes that weren't destroyed/tensions rise between others
-->Everyone is left worst off while said cop is incarcerated for a light sentence or moved to another precinct.
-->Nothing is solved

And the cycle just repeats. Anyone saying these riots (not the peaceful protesters who actually give a damn) help "spread the message" should see how the media is going to spin this as another isolated incident that reflects bad on black community as a whole. There is no conversation to be had. Nothing gets done. And none of these artworks encourage that when you lie and misinform people.
This is why I detached myself from it online for the most part. How can any of us outside Minniapolis affect the case, especially when there's a holding pattern this strong? It's just sad and I hope there's enough members in each community affected that care to try and get things to move democratically while the rest of us fat bastards sleep off our two weeks of debachury and emotional gratification. :( once the riots stop, I'll see where i can help put money back, I'm not total nilhlist yet
As stated previously, you've been making some bitchen post, thanks man.

if you're cisgender and make a trans character YOU HAVE TO DO IT THE WAY I SAY OR YOURE FUCKING RUDE!!! (although they have a point about 'when he was a girl/she was a boy')
also why is it so rude to show a character pre-transition if you're respectful about it? they literally say thats an important part of it. but you can't show it..?!

This shit is going to be fucking awesome in 5 years to look back and laugh on after the collapse of society. Love the capitalism sponsored revolution of the future mood.

When creativity becomes enslaved to propaganda, it becomes putrid and empty.
That's this whole thread in a sentence. Art isn't fun anymore and political agreement is obligated or you're an -ist and -phobe.
I'm just muting people until this fiasco is over to at least keep things fun and calm cuz I'm already on the edge from lockdown.

Also, I've noticed a lot of Kiwi Pride avatars. It's nice to know that there's a mix of backgrounds coming together to laugh at SJW crap, the people they claim to represent.

wish i could explain that. it's an anime thing apparently. seems racist though, considering..

That's just a manga visual trope for "unattractive character".

Since manga/anime characters are drawn with so few lines, they're generally meant to be "generically" pretty. When you see a character that's supposed to not be ugly, they're drawn with heavily exaggerated features. You could argue that it is racist since so many black characters (although not all) are drawn like that, but the fact of the matter is that 100% Japanese characters also get the same treatment.

It just so happens that for Japanese standards of beauty black people look weird.

That's fake. Look at the username. It's just someone with a checkmark changing their screen name.

Besides, a respectable corporation would never stoop so low as to post a poorly-photoshopped image. It's against the rules. If you're making a commentary about the current riots you must do it with white letters on a black background.

Is it too soon to post something palette-cleansing for Pride Month?
See, this is nice. Why keep trying to turn every character gay despite the authors' intents when there are perfectly good and beloved characters collecting dust?

Edit: don't post before your morning coffee, kids. Jesus Christ, so many typos to fix.
