Trump Enslavement Syndrome - Orange man good. /r/The_Donald and any public demonstration of rabid pro-Trump enthusiasm in spite of all reason.

I just noticed, that's one of Trump's most famous images, and he's all serious. Most of Obama's was smiling, even Dubya was smiling. I suddenly realize how most of Trump's photos is either him Jeering in front of Rabid Fans or giving occasional disingenuous shit eating grins.

It's his brand; he's spent decades cultivating an image of himself as a rich, highly competent asshole. His campaign platform was practically "vote for me because I'm an asshole who'll get things done while pissing off everyone on the Left", and he kept the second part of that promise.

Don't forget he got the first half of the former right. He still manages to be an asshole. One can even go on the technicality side and say he did get things done though in a way that it works in pissing off everyone and showing how much of an asshole he is while it doesn't do much to help at best and at worst makes it all more of a tire fire.

Regarding Trump's Bible photo op: Regardless of how you feel about him, can we admit this is straight up virtue signalling? I've seen some of his supporters rip into brands for virtue signalling (rightfully so, to be honest) so I would appreciate a little consistency. You don't have to like everything the guy you support does.

I actually laughed out loud at this exchange (18 seconds in).

Reporter: Is that your Bible?

Trump: It's a Bible.

I just think it's funny that Evangelicals eat this shit up. They really believe Trump was sent by Christ to save America when he can't even name a Bible verse.

These are the same people who fork over their life savings to Kenneth Copeland and Joel Osteen

The whole "walk to the church" scene and the bible photo op were the cringiest president-related PR thing I've seen since Obama's SNL appearances, and it appeals to exactly the same type of drooling idiot, regardless of partisan affiliation. .

The evangelicals might approve of Trump because of their 'end times' attitude. They may legitimately view Trump as bringing about the final battle.Evangelicals since the 80's have had this 'Apocalypse' idea in them.Back then it was viewed through the lens of the Cold War.
To be honest i'm scarred of some of them because i know that just as the SJW's they may not be a majority but they're in far greater numbers than Al Qaeda fans are.For every fan of Al Qaeda you have there are probably 10-15 SJW's and evangelicals who are just as out there but importantly so far they're not yet turned against the system.Lets be honest here anyone that takes Kenneth Copeland seriously is kind of out there. And considering how rich that guy is its obvious there are plenty who take him seriously.Sure you have incidents riots attacks here and there but its not evolved into a full blown war.Because if it had you would know it.
In a country with hundreds of millions of guns even the more restrictive states still have enough firearms for genuine bloodbaths to occur. This has usually kept the peace to an extent in the sense that people have an inherent realisation that beyond a certain point a riot will turn into a full blown war.But this can only work for so long.Basically as long as the fanatics don't feel too threatened. The US has avoided a 3rd civil war(the first was actually the revolutionary war since a lot of colonists remained loyal to Britain) by a policy of carott and stick towards the more militant elements of society. Its never been just the stick.Because at the size of the US and the level of firearms availability(legal/illegal) the militant elements can quickly start a new civil war if need be.

Really, because I've been seeing the thirst for war coming from leftist circles who keep saying that Donald Trump is going to cause WW3 any day now.

Let's not forget that two days later, a Sunday, instead of attending church, he went golfing. (IIRC, he used to rag on Obama for golfing and say that when HE was president, he'd be way too busy to ever go golfing, blah blah blah)

Oh, and then he went to "inspect" his bunker. Dude, just own up and admit you were hiding there.

If you had a bunker while your capital city was being burned by terrorists, you'd probably be there too.

I actually wonder if Trump has suitcases full of gold bullion he has ready just in case he has to flee the country.

Its not exactly good optics to hide in a bunker during times of strife.Especially since in practice if Trump wants to he can call up the marines from Quantico to surround the White House. No way you're getting in without a full blown battle in that case. Also prior to 2016 there was increasing talk among the right to go to war against leftists. It died down with Trump in office and the left started talking about war.Now the right is again talking about war in defence of Trump or if they lose the election.
Basically both are trying to goad the other into crossing the line.My belief is that the most extreme on both sides want war. They just haven't found a way to enlist the 'moderate extreme'(ie the ones who are willing to fight but not until the other side starts it).The moderates don't matter because those would be enlisted once full blown battles start. Not saying this is a realistic scenario but i'm reasonably certain the most extreme versions are trying to find a way to start something. To be honest i do believe sooner or later something is gonna start. There are too many points of contention regarding guns, minorities, the economy, abortion, religion or lack thereof to be solvable.Sooner or later something is gonna snap.At best it can be delayed not stopped.Call it a gut feeling.

Turns out, like many things, the golf criticism was just projection.

I actually don't give a shit about the golfing tbh. Being President is stressful.

I do think it's funny as hell that he criticized Obama for golfing all the time and then.... Goes golfing all the time.
He could've gotten away with it with literally any other hobby.

Fuck's sake, Donnie, play to your base by shooting sporting clays or some shit, but don't do the exact thing you kept harping on your predecessor for doing

Well that's it in a nutshell. It's the hypocrisy that gets him all this shit, not going golfing in and of itself. Although he'd probably be better off walking the course, rather than using a cart.

You know, I almost have to wonder if deep down he doesn't even want a second term. He seemed to think that he'd waltz into the White House and everyone would love him and he would snap his fingers and get everything done and be the best president in history. Almost like he didn't understand that the president doesn't have absolute authority to do as he pleases.

Obviously he's still gonna run for a second term because he doesn't want to lose or be seen as weak, and he's got a pretty good shot at winning anyway.

I mean, shit, man, if I was a billionaire living a cushy life, I wouldn't want to give it up to be president.

I really think he didn't even want the first term. He's 100% self obsessed and loved the idolatry he got from his base at his rallies. Which is why he made so many ridiculous promises (I mean, do we really think he believed he'd get Mexico to pay for the wall? Really?), because it made his base love him more and he knew he'd never have to make good, because he didn't expect to win. And also is why he continued to do rallies even after he won. He's an egomaniac and a narcissist. He doesn't give two shits about this country or anyone in it, including his own family. He wants everyone to love him, and before he ran for president he either had people who loved him or people who were indifferent. And he was surrounded by people who carefully curated his world so he only knew about those who loved him. He's a guy who has severe Daddy issues and is in constant need of validation.

He literally got in way over his head, and now is stuck.

Also, I need to know from the rest of the world. I grew up in NY so the Donald was always in the news or tabloids for something. Is that not the case in the rest of the country? Because I am baffled by how some people see him as this great guy when I grew up with him being reported for being generally terrible.

What’s really got people (understandably) pissed about him lately is how he couldn’t care less about anything that’s going on in the country. Other presidents have at least been able to somewhat unify the country, even if their speech or actions were 100% insincere and all bullshit.

Then again that became obvious a few months ago when he was asked what he had to say to Americans who were scared of the COVID outbreak and he replied with “that’s a nasty question”.

Especially when that question was the reporter just lobbing an easy home run for him to answer it and reassure people. Instead, Trump decided to take the pitch for a strike

Not from NY but I remember him being everywhere and just thinking of him as some rich dickbag that would pop up in commercials and shit, say a dumb line, and that was that. I guess thinking about it he was promoted as a brand, and maybe other people weren't as annoyed with his face as I was as a kid. Once he started speaking on political shit and getting on twitter he became a different kind of joke, but one people underestimated I suppose.
