Ways to vent that wouldn't involve airing her dirty laundry out to internet strangers:

• Make an appointment with her therapist
• Shoot Colleen, Amanda, Peggy, and/or Chad a message on Facebook
• Email one of her old, supportive professors
• A traditional pen-and-paper journal
• A digital journal (in a private word doc)
• Make some personal vent art

She chooses to post it online, even though all it ever does is make people doubt or judge her. She knows it upsets her. She seeks it out herself.

I don't think Steph had a perfect life or a perfect relationship with her parents (no one has). I also don't think she should have to bottle up her painful emotions. But Steph is an adult, and has to learn to deal with this shit in healthy ways like everyone else.

She creates/exacerbates so much of her own misery.

IMO she should just stay quiet and fuck off instead of trying to capitalize on this shit-show. How should I put it? I'm not a fan of either extreme - the rampaging, looting 'hood brothas and sistas or the cops - but I can understand the grievances of both sides. And she doesn't have anything in common with either of them. She's a middle-class white girl trying her damnedest to appear as "very speshul quirky UwU" like a goddamn middle schooler, who had some, entirely reasonable, not very exceptional or special hardships in her life. Nothing at all like either a black American, who had friends and relatives brutalized or outright killed by cops, or like a cop who had partners or friends killed by coked-up gangbangers.

I don't mean to invoke the fucking "privilege" or "progressive stack" discourse, but it's hard not to bring up something like it. At the very least, I find her trying to insert herself into and capitalize on yet another major event while having no business to very distasteful. Just like Lou Gags, her apparent incapability to understand what's wrong with her actions on either an emotional or an intellectual level is very grating.

For the context of any kiwis who are curious about dermatillomania, the compulsion to pick and peel and rip at your own skin can be pretty extreme; it can get pretty gnarly because you're so determined that 'it'll look better/feel better if I just tear away this imperfect dry bit of skin' that you can end up with large areas that are raw or bleeding, and that's better in your mind than the alternative. If scraping at her knuckles is Stapph's idea of self harm then her dermo must be really fucking mild because scratched knuckles barely even register when you're used to palm-sized raw flesh on your face or a four-inch wide bleeding gouge down the entire front of your torso.

Its possible that the doctors really did say that, but if they did they're basing it on what Ms. Brown tells them. If she goes up to the doctor and shouts "I IMMEDIATELY TRY TO KILL MYSELF IF I WORK OVER AN HOUR A DAY!", I doubt the doctor is allowed to say "Yeah that is clearly bullshit. Here is a prescription for a job." They'll just kinda have to believe them, say "huh that is terrible I guess you should see a therapist and maybe not kill yourself". We have to remember that we're working with a lot of information that most people don't have. If she goes up to a stranger and tell them she self harms, they don't know that she just means that she picks skin off her feet and puts it in a jar. If she says she had a suicide attempt, they don't know that means she attempted to down a bottle of hand sanitizer and failed. If she says her parents are abusive, they don't know that she means "My dad says 'thanks for the warning' whenever I leave the room and say I'll be right back!". They assume that she meant something much more serious than she actually means, and while her self awareness is low we can see on her Mastodon and main Tumblr that she's self aware enough to be vague about it now. Even if she does spill too much and the person she's talking to realizes that everything she is saying is nonsense, its really awkward to call someone out on it in real-life face to face. If you don't have any reason to you just nod and move on with your life. The same goes for the LGBT nonsense, we know that she is clearly a cis-straight incredibly thirsty woman who constantly overshares, but someone seeing her at pride has no reason to look at her ugly shirt and pins and assume that she's faking being an nb/lesbian. Even if they talk to her and she goes on a rant about Adam Driver, very few people are going to say "Wow you're clearly not anything you claim to be" to her face.

We're in a special place here. We know many details about her life and have the evidence to back it up, so we know right away when she is lying or exaggerating. We enjoy calling people out, so we get to point out whenever she spouts nonsense. The only people who she interacts with in the real world with anything close to that is her parents, who clearly don't bother to call her out on any of it. If she ever leaves the house and interacts with anyone they have neither. The Doctor won't know that she's lying about her abuse unless he is a kiwi farmer. The Doctor won't know she held a job perfectly fine until she broke some simple rules unless he was a kiwi farmer. Its perfectly reasonable that a doctor acting only on the information provided by her and her records that do probably say something about a suicide attempt (without mentioning it was hilarious) would work on the assumption she was providing information in good faith and pass judgment based on that.
