I've seen guys like this show up lately to cons and no one seems to cause a fuss when they strut around half-naked sometimes. So I do get a little confused when these con organizers want to make these events more family friendly.

Pretty much.

I've seen my share of male crossdressers at the one-and-only con I've been to, but they meant no harm, they were just hanging out with friends and having fun. Some are effeminate enough to blend in that I didn't know they were a guy until I asked for a picture, but others were pretty hairy like a Misty cosplayer and a Joy (of Inside Out) cosplayer I sat next to at a panel who had some B.O.

I don't care just as long as they're not acting like jackasses or groping people. That's the entire point of cosplaying is to pretend to be someone else for a day or two but with a dash of common courtesy.

I have heard about guys who take pictures with female cosplayers and attempt to grope them, so I agree there are some creepy fucks that hang around these cons. I have seen some fujos proudly saying that they want to stalk gay men or groom other teenage boys into playing out their yaoi fantasies (or if there aren't any boys around they get lesbian girls to crossdress into doing it). Finding out that there are a lot of creepy women in anime communities did surprise me many years ago, but of course they get a pass because they usually maintain a cutesy persona or they're solely into yaoi which isn't considered as "problematic" as hentai.

... I'll be in my bunk.

Uh, I mean, yeah, hypocrisy!

Actually that's a serious thought. I wonder how much time these guys have to spend fending off fujos and faggots, and whether anyone in the con scene would give a damn if they complained about being groped or tickled or looked at without permission.

NO-HOMO, but I gotta respect the effort of being that ripped. Seriously, he can pull a great JoJo cosplay.

Funny you should say that, because he has done plenty of JoJo cosplays.

I hope it isn't too off topic. I just wanted to post a bit of eye candy 🙃

He's gay isn't he?
I feel like the second I oogle, my hopes and dreams will get smashed to smithereens.

On topic though, I don't see a ton of male cosplayers. I would like to see more and not necessarily cosplaying skimpy things, just cosplaying in general. I haven't seen a lot of talk about male cosplayers.

There's two reasons for this.
#1. There's not as many male cosplays that "stand out" (aside from armor which is notoriously difficult to make) but a lot of male anime characters basically just wear some kind of jacket/coat
#2. There's not a lot of super-active female (or gay) photographers. There's a ton of guys taking pics for the spank-bank, not sure how many women are doing the same. (or at least, publicizing it by slapping them in an online gallery)

Most guys that cosplay do "low effort" due to one or both of the reasons listed above. ie. It's easy to cosplay "school uniform Shinji" but also, no one cares and eventually you wonder why you'd spend days if not weeks making something elaborate that only 3 people photograph.

(Also, I can't say for sure, but I'd conjecture that very few guys will do "sexy" cosplay if they're not in shape, whereas the range of "acceptable" for guys (as the audience) is much wider. Yeah the "9" hot cosplay girl will get a ton of attention, but the "5" will get some too, because there's a lot of desperate guys, OTOH, afaik, girls would have open disgust for anything below an 8(?) for guys and guys would make fun of them also, but women can add their opinions if I'm "putting words in their mouths" so to speak)

I have met him before at cons and he's a nice dude (I heard he's pansexual so you might have a chance 😉). I have another male friend who's really into cosplaying as well and he's a rather buff guy. He mostly does characters from fighting games and he spends a lot of time getting the details right (I think they turn out rather well in my opinion).

But I guess because of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure becoming more mainstream in the west; male cosplayers have been becoming more prevalent. I have seen a fair amount of guys saying that JJBA has made them want to start working out more and maintaining their appearance. Over the past few years or so, I have seen a few of these guys make more risque cosplay shoots for Patreon or OnlyFans. And before anyone asks; these are usually attractive, muscular men who may be bisexual.

I think one of the reasons why a lot of guys don't cosplay is because of how creepy the female fans act towards them. They would get glomped (by hamplanets even) or harassed into doing gay things with their friends by these girls. Because of this, there's a lot more female cospalyers who crossdress as male characters. Like I said before, if they can't get guys to do their gay shit they get other girls who are more willing to do it instead.

And here's a video example.

Probably, though at the con I went to, I've seen about a good portion of male cosplayers who did other male characters (more-so than female characters, the ones I had mentioned were the exception rather than the rule). Maybe it's where I went to, but I was honestly surprised I saw more obscure cosplay than popular (I had heard a Vash the Stampede and Wolfwood pair were there, but I had missed them by a day, they were on my list of to-photograph cosplay). I'll go ahead and post pics of the male cosplayers I've taken, it's been four years now since I went to that Comicon and literally no one outside of my friend circle has seen these pics.

Yes, this is a dude.
