The GOP was too busy pandering to Bible Belt traditionalist Protestants and the neocons who saw the fundies as useful pawns back in the 80's and 90's, and the Millennials who make up the bulk of the Woke Left spent their childhood and adolescence under the shadow of the Religious Right and their moral guardian bullshit in the last big culture war.

Then came the colossal fuckup that was the Bush Administration, which gave us two failed wars and ended with the Great Recession, and Bush strongly identified himself with the fundies and pandered to them extensively.

A lot of the Woke Left still operate under the impression the Right is still dominated by fundies even if only on a subconscious level at this point, and when you view the origins of the Woke Left as a Millennial backlash against the Bush-era Religious Right, a lot of their idiosyncratic and contradictory stances start to make more sense.

The demise of the Religious Right coincided with the 2008 Recession and the rise of Obama, and then you had the "New Atheism" movement of the 1990's and 2000's self-destruct and become a tard fight between pretentious wokepunk dangerhairs and fedora-wearing bearded douchebags, mainly because their old common enemy was essentially dead or at least decisively defeated. A lot of people said "Now what?" and then came the whole "Atheism+" controversies and the skeptics bickering with the punks.

Then comes Occupy and everything sort of coalesces into a wider movement and starts to leave the college campuses, punk culture venues, and Tumblr blogs and enters the real world. The big corporate elites capitalize on this and make the protesters unwitting pawns of the establishment

A really simplified view on this is that it's "Fuck You, Dad!" writ large combined with an utterly broken education system and the aftershocks of the Great Recession and the failure of Occupy.

Razorfist may be a cringe-inducing sperg in his own right, but he was dead on the money when he said "You rebelled against your parents so hard you became them on crack!"

It's basically a moralistic cult, and a lot of the lower middle class and working class white SJW's who are true believers and not just trend chasers often grew up in fundie households or at least grew up in the Bible Belt during the heyday of the Religious Right, and this is especially true of the Late Millennials and Early Zoomers that anchored themselves to the Bernie campaign.

We're reaping the whirlwind of a dumbed-down education system that sacrifices independent thinking for mindless regurgitation. We've forgotten our history and heritage and replaced it with propaganda masquerading as entertainment. We sit and stare at flashing screens all day and we've forgotten how to read anything longer than a few sentences. We've lost our purpose now that we don't have to fight to stay alive and even the weakest survive well into adulthood. The vast majority of young people live directionless, meaningless lives so it's no surprise they will try to find meaning wherever they can, and these days it happens to be in the manufactured victimhood of identity politics. It won't help them - it'll keep them divided, keep them hating their neighbour, keep their heads spinning with nonsense. I'm reminded of that Theodore Dalrymple quote:

The younger teachers HATED America. It started focusing on all the shit we did wrong. Telling us how we should feel and what conclusions we should draw.

Rather than show us films and slideshows on the Trail of Tears and the Indian Wars and learning all about them (How Custer was a LOLCow who should have NEVER been put in charge of a fucking potato peeling duty much less the 7th Cav Regiment) from several angles, including having a local Native American speaker come in, there was a few short paragraphs that just told you White Settlers Bad, Native Americans Good.

Which was funny, considering you could just go down to the park and see the old Cav Fort with all the scars from the Indian attacks.

We learned more about Jane Fonda's part in the Vietnam War and how it was all about "Oppressing people in the name of European Supremacy and Colonialism" than about how the French had gotten us into a SECOND fucking war after WW2 to try to keep one of the colonies they fucking abused the shit out of.

Suddenly, everything became about how the USA caused it all and was the worst country on Earth.

No more were we learning how the complex treaties and compacts and agreements led to WW1, now apparently it was over a fucking "Revolutionary" killing an Arch-Duke who was oppressing his people and that's why WW1 happened.

Two paragraphs, if you were lucky, and that's IF the teacher didn't skip it.

Christopher Columbus? Fuck him. You're going to learn nothing but he took back slaves and everyone rushed America to steal the land and resources for no other reason than white people.
