I think I have a solution to this mess that will work for everyone.

See, all the Disband the police people talk about "Restoratative Justice" where offenders work to heal the people and communities that their actions have harmed. And I think they might be on to something that could be applied in this case.

So what I am proposing for the Minnesota criminal justice system do with Derek Chauvin is, since even the possibility of sending one more person into the racist and overcrowded US prison is simply too much, is to allow him instead to be part and parcel of this restorative community justice the community activists keep saying is so great.

And I think the best way for him to heal the community would be for him to go and do something to try to see the proper implementation and adherence to state and criminal civil and criminal codes. And possibly have him do so while wearing some sort of standardized outfit. And we wouldn't want him doing that by himself, so we should arrange for someone else to do it with him. Maybe give them some sort of way to get around.

I liked Mattis when he was first announced as Sec of Defense. Then when Trump said he wasn't going to escalate the confict in Syria outside a few missile strikes and Mattis resigned saying we wasted lives in the Middle East, I lost a lot of respect for him. At the end of the day walking away from war and not getting people killed should be a good thing but Mattis was sadly too invested in the mindset of "finish what we starred so the lives lost were not in vain" aka sunk-cost fallacy. My belief in the Mid-East Wars is "how the fuck do we get out of here?" and i will support any President who doesn't escalate our involvement and tries to pull our troops out of the quagmire which Trump is kinda fulfilling.
