No, "Murder" is premeditated, meaning killing someone was the goal. Manslaughter is when it's accidental while you're doing something else criminal.

Felony murder is when it's a felony. Sometimes they call it misdemeanor manslaughter if you kill someone while committing what would otherwise be a misdemeanor. Also it can be felony murder if you conspire to commit a felony, and in the course of it, a co-conspirator commits a murder, even if you didn't intend the murder. That can even be first degree.
Also manslaughter is generally any form of homicide, generally without malice/premeditation, that doesn't get considered murder. And there's sometimes a distinction between voluntary and involuntary manslaughter.
The same act can be charged as both felony murder and as some other category of homicide. The act is the same, but the theories are different. A prosecutor who wants a conviction should charge as many alternate theories as practical, especially if none of them are particularly strong, and they aren't in this case, although both felony murder and some kind of manslaughter are at least plausible.

This isn't related strictly to the riots (yet), but in Australia, the Premier of Victoria (who recently signed onto the Belt and Road Scam with China) and has been keeping Victoria in a perpetual state of strict lockdown for no reason (whilst giving himself a massive pay rise, he said that anyone who had been working from home is not allowed to go back to working in an office, by punishment of fines), has just approved BLM "protests" can go ahead in Melbourne....
He's been chastising small business owners, telling them to shut the fuck up for the past few months, get over losing their businesses etc and refuses to open pubs and clubs, but if you're an idiot leftist, feel free to protest on Sunday!
Even his own Health Minister is like "this isn't a good idea" :
These leftists were the same people screaming on Twitter that people at the beach a month ago were "all going to get us killed". Today, they're promoting this.
It's almost like Corona Virus was a small virus that was exploited by leftists in various countries to destablise them.....

US doesn't do manslaughter, it's murder 1,2 and 3. 3 is usually described as manslaughter - basically, it's an unintentional killing done without malice (specifics will vary by state).
Felony murder is when a homicide occurs in the course of, or as the result of committing a felony. One case saw some kids who had broken into a house go down for murder because the owner shot and killed one of them. So you don't even have to do the killing.
In terms of charges for the officers', - take this with a pinch of salt - Knee man, First degree would never stick, second might but it is risky, third I think probably would if the defense can't prove the knee was not responsible. That said, it will depend on whether he was following procedures, if he was he might still get off due to lack of proper training.
I think the other three officers will probably walk, although they've basically been handed a life sentence anyway so...

I suggest you sit your Dad down with some Unicorn Riot and Regg Inkagnedo streams (from the night of the fires) and tell him that those "White Supremacists" he sees busting into stores and setting blazes worked awfully hard to make themselves look like left wing activists, to the point where they dyed their hair neon colors, styled it into filthy dreadlocks and smoked copious amounts of weed to blend in. Then ask him what's more likely - hundreds of Trump-loving white wingers putting wigs on their heads and heading downtown to goad noggers into smashing and looting things, or a Democrat mayor and governor trying to cover up their incompetence by blaming a political bogeyman that's feared by their base?
"White Supremacist" is a meaningless buzzword. The crooked officials using it didn't have to specify which right-wing group did the violence because they know their constituents will lap it up like thirsty dogs. Soccer Moms, Boomers and Karens like the idea of all that scary, nasty violence they see on the TV being done by a broadly defined organization that's evil for no reason, just like the villains in the cartoons their young children and grandchildren watch! The idea that this violence could be the result of complex interplay between various political factions, long term changes in the environment and conspiracies which were being hatched long before they were even born is just too much for them to handle. They want quick, simple solutions to easy to solve problems.

This shit really bothers me when it comes to leftists. Their insults are always weirdly childish. They call you a poopyhead shittypants plod turd man. They performatively obsess over Marvel and Lego. Leftist writers go into children's entertainment and make shows like Steven Universe or Adventure Time where all the episodes are about who's dating who. Leftist authors write stuff like "The TIE fighter wibbles and wobbles and zigzags herkily jerkily out of sight". Leftist journos write stuff like " umm... *adjusts smartypants glasses* okey dokums class here's the skinny on capitalism". The weirdos on reddit talking like a stroked out Ned Flanders with their heckerinos and puppers and snoots. The worst part is they seem to think it's cute.
The way they play act as children like Stefoknee makes me seriously uncomfortable and this tryhard quirkiness needs to stop. They give off serious pedo vibes. One good thing about these riots has been watching these diapered fruits get an overdue dose of reality.
