zero recently released a video about the sonic fox controversy
it is a good video but one point he makes in the video is "they have been oppressed for a long time so they should be able to express themselves" to the point that ppl say that sonicfox "uses gay as a personality trait and that's unhealthy".
i think an argument to zero's point would be "is it healthy to perpetuate gay stereotypes in the lgbt community". i mean, sonicfox is allowed to pursue their happiness, but the lgbt community has had an issue where there is a standard to act "gay and sassy" in order to be yourself. classic example of sonic perpetrating this stereotype is at the game awards at 2018 where they say they are "super gay".
again, sonicfox is allowed to pursue their own happiness. it's just irrational to expect no hate when you emulate stereotypes that drive ppl away from the lgbt community.

I'm chiming in as a gay man, someone who grew up in the shadow of Mathew Shepherd being beaten to death in the middle of nowhere by two homophobes, someone who grew up with the queer history of the gay rights movement spearheaded by gay and trans PoC, someone who grew up in the shadow of the AIDS crisis. Sonicfox is a loosely pansexual fetishist, like most furries. His sexuality lies in objects, textures, settings and roleplay, not people. He's primarily straight, being attracted to femininity with a shit load of kinks in tow. He's the "hetero-flexible" shithouse fetishist that tries to claim socially liberal clout with "SEE? I'm sexually wierd! I'm oppressed too!" He's the cishet foot fetishist trying to butt his way into a pride parade.
SonicFox isn't part of the LGBTQ community because his sexuality is primarily focused thru fetishism and objectification, not thru gendered attraction. This is a HUGE problem in the fandom. It's not an orientation, it's sexuality via obectification: "gore!" "transfemmes!" "dog cocks with knots in furry porn!" Look at this fucking friendship with Hulex (beastforums account) and SethIova (cub porn/pedophilia). It's the same goddamn thing as cis faggots fetishizing transfemme bodies as "oooh! it's probably because zero is transitioning over to become more of an influencer instead of a pro gamer. i mean, you have him saying he does not enjoy smash as he used to as well as him saying he's not having as much fun with the game. it is why you have him making content like defending sonicfox because he does not want to just stay in the realm of smash. financially, it's probably the best decision for him and i don't see why not go for it. if it makes you happier than before, do it.
i think at the end of the day people have the right to critique sonicfox. they are a figure in the gaming community that deserves criticism like anyone else. trying to push that "there is no issue about adding sonicfox to the game" is very ignorant and closes a beneficial discussion.
there have been rumors about sonicfox using their influence for sexual favors with straight guys.. but it's okay to add them to skull girls as an npc because they "send a message that a lot of people can get behind" and is "the best player in skull girls".
are the people who want to sue and refund irrational? yes. does that mean all criticism should be invalid about a person who has a massive following? no.

The long and short of it is that he's not what he claims to be. There's a difference between people who live the day to day realities of being lgbtq (especially trans folk right now) and people whose primary means of sexual expression are esoteric fetishes and paraphilias.
Furries have a real problem differentiating the two.
If he really believes in what he's saying, he'll put the work in, take some humanities and sociology classes in college. With his platform he could turn it into a career and do some REAL good. Imagine the fundraising he could accomplish with his reach.
But I doubt it.

This is probably the most insightful thing I've read and it made me open my eyes to how unironically privileged SonicFox, a "gay" black furry is, compared to any other minority or non straight person. On top of that, this goes for all the people who do it but mostly SonicFox because he keeps doing it, but have you noticed he's only said "trans rights" and doesn't do anything about helping those who are trans getting rights? Saying a phrase in hoping it catches on and causes people to get off their asses isn't activism. It's just talking loudly and without warning.
tl;dr SonicFox isn't oppressed despite being a triple minority.

Not to take anything away from what was a rather awesome rant, but yes, basically, though the truth only came out over a decade later. It was, of course, roundly dismissed and reviled by people who didn't read the book written about the case, because Shepard the symbol is more important to them than Shepard the man, which is both to be expected and pretty much the exact opposite ethos of this site.
There's a whole conversation to be had about the way society requires its victims to be virtuous and palatable, incorporating everything from the legal strategies to the way it empowers victimhood in people if they see how being a victim gets their sins dismissed - but a thread about a moronic furfag with no inner life is probably not the place for it.
