Jesus fucking christ. Different guns are good for different things. Different tools for different jobs. AR-15s (5.56) aren't the best hunting guns. Pistols certainly aren't bad home defense guns but I'm not sure they're suited to someone that may be a nervous, inexperienced gun user.

AKs are also fine guns, very hardy, and really are comparable to AR-15s in numerous ways.

You gotta consider who is gonna be firing your gun though if you're doing home defense.
