No, Trannies have been a thing since forever. I think the tranny derailment of LGBT happened around the time Gay marriage became legal in the US. You also have to remember a major network would never jump on such a hot topic riddled with as much controversy,like trans kids,if they didn't know how things would pan out and that takes years of market research.

Yeah, this thing isn't remotely new. I remember two big trans figures here in my country in the 80s, back when we called them "transexual".

They were in fact normal people and overall nice, despite the fact that, well, they're trans. I guess they were the small sample of people who would do well with a surgery. Also, both were adults when it happened.
