I know what the joke will be but Swedish police are required to do warning shots(fantastic idea in dense urban areas) and disabling shots(another fantastic idea in dense urban areas) in that order before lethal force can be considered. Before that comes de-escalation/dialogue before they are even allowed to draw their weapons, then verbal warnings. It is thought that method is why Sweden have more killings by police than neighboring countries that have more of a "GET THE FUCK DOWN ON THE GROUND, NOW!" approach. As a result they don't seem to get rushed by someone with a knife as often, which seems to happen over here more frequently and leads to the police officer drawing their sidearm in panic and shooting from the hip before it is too late. Another stellar idea in dense urban areas.

People arrested are already not allowed to lie face down after being cuffed because a tweaker dies that way and I think it is discouraged to even cuff them if they lie face down. Criminals knows this and there are clips on youtube where they use a "I can't breath" ploy and even feign falling unconscious so they can try to take a swing at the cops and escape. The police are aware of this ploy and as a result they seem to take "I can't breath" less seriously.

I'll give you a sneak peek of what will come after requiring warning shots/trying to hit their leg: arguing that police shouldn't shoot at all and they should use their secret police powers to dodge the knife/hammer/axe and harmlessly disarm the violent lunatic like in a kung-fu movie. Actually letting lunatics take a free shot with a deadly weapon at a cop is what the turbo-fags over here believe is not only reasonable but also a viable harm reduction strategy. I believe that drawn weapons and a no-nonsense attitude makes people quickly reconsider their options, especially if dialogue won't work because they don't know the language or respect authority. Having a gun pointed at you transcends language and culture, and de-escalating by running away from the cops is a more desirable outcome than running at them.

It's truly impressive how many people don't grasp the concept of "don't point your gun at anyone/anything you're not intending to kill/destroy". A "warning shot" or a "disabling shot" is only a twitch (from the shooter or the target) away from a hit to a vital area.

I'm always half-unironically wanting a more hands on police force. The people think the cops are bad because they have weapons to fall back on and they should be some kind of super-heroes. Well let's just go with that line of thought and envision a world where damn near every Law Enforcement Official in the USA is a Chuck Liddell. Now imagine every dumb kid, crack whore, and meth'd man wanting to resist the cops. I know it'd never come to that and I'm fantasizing; but it's the next logical step to me. If you can't carry guns, clubs, sprays, or other devices; gonna have to learn how to work with your hands and feet.

You didn't do anything, they did, and ethically, you can't be held responsible for what they do.

This is why you do a STEM major, my ethics was "Engineering Ethics" and was basically just don't cut corners cause that's how shit like the Tacoma Narrows Bridge happens.
