I don't understand what happened with the later half of the millennials, every other generation, including the older millennials, tried to act tough. Even if they were complete pussies they wanted to be seen as tough. They were all into getting fucked up and ignoring what was safe, trying to be edgy, all that bullshit, but it seems like the younger millennials somehow got into trying to out-fag each other. Its like they were all pretending to be vegans and trying to act like they were the most sensitive, like none of them valued toughness, what the fuck caused this?

I have no idea. As one of the oldest bracket of millennials, I noticed stuff started getting weird in schools shortly after I went through. No Child Left Behind got implemented, and from what I heard, made it fairly difficult for kids to get held back a grade. (Something kids used to fear.) Then, banning stuff became more commonplace: Banning peanut butter sandwiches for everyone because 1-2 kids had allergies, banning playground games because some kid got hurt, banning an assigned books because a parent found it offensive and didn’t want her kid reading it, etc. Outside of school, internet/television content blocking became common to “protect children”.

My personal theory is that those kids learned early on that having a problem meant that the world would move mountains for you, and the job of authorities was to remove anything “unsafe” from your environment.

Then after this was the norm, you had the anti-bullying campaigns start up that essentially encouraged kids to virtue signaling about how nice and accepting of others they were. Suddenly you had high school classes electing the Down syndrome kid as Prom King or whatever, and getting a newspaper article for it.

I've been very angry my entire adult life about the injustices of the US prison and policing system, and would welcome constructive discussions of how to reform them. This is not that. It is a cartoonishly astroturfed Democrat fanfic "grassroots" movement intended to spread rage, fear, and fuel partisan politics at the national level while doing jack shit at the state and local level where the majority of these issues arise.

The topic has become too toxic for any actual discussion of workable policy without social liquidation, so we just get screeching about abolishing the police and fantasizing about the army massacring peaceful-ish protestors instead of undoing the ravages of the war on drugs, reducing prison sentences for non-violent crime, dismantling "zero tolerance" policies, mandatory minimum sentences, three strikes laws, etc, and addressing poverty and community collapse.

I have much political common ground with the protestors regarding police reform and have for decades, but nothing good will come of this. Demanding unworkable feel good measures are a major part of how we got all these awful policies, and there's a good chance we're going to get a mix of tough-on-crime reforms due to the riots that weren't dealt with due to optics and race-baiting bullshit that ignores the root problems of police brutality.

You, and most dems, conflate disagreement on how to fix things, or any opposition whatsoever to the craziest slogans being shrieked, with thinking the status quo is good, because if you talk policy, you lose your wedge issue, and so does the GOP.

If this was only about fucked up policing and criminal justice they wouldn’t call it “black lives matter.” This is an organization that is a bunch of radical communist types that wants to blame whitey for all their problems mixed in with some “we wuz kangz and shit.”
