In the grand scheme of things, I'm not saying it's automatically a good thing... but simply inevitable. Assuming the planet can truly support 15 or 20 billion people... and assuming that standards continue to raise across the globe and that travel and migration remain relatively fluid... we're going to fuck ourselves into relative genetic conformity. Civil Rights Movement had a lot of posers, but it had smart leadership that knew how to focus posers for optics but keep them away from the messaging. If any dipshits made embarrassments of themselves, the brains behind the movement could effectively disown them and their ilk and shut them in the cold - an act that would further win them favor. People like the appearance of self-regulating movements with principles and standards, since it suggests that you can take what they say at face value.

OWS, BLM, and whatever the fuck this thing is all have a problem of no real leadership. The things closest to leaders that they have seem to just be cynical and self-interested -- a bit of a far cry from the minds that brought together the disparate elements of the 60s civil rights struggle.

The thing in NY had a loose handful of people at the top at the beginning, I recall. But did those guys have any say over the ones that broke out in california or europe? There's a very clear structure and hierarchy in the old-ass civil rights movement -- while there isn't direct and rigid 'you answer to this guy,' there's lines of communication between various community leaders across the nation that allow for somewhat synchronized messaging at that point in time.

Compared to this clusterfuck, where 3 different cities have 15 different lists of demands.
