Crunchy Parents General

Two questions:

1) WHAT the FUCK is wrong with these people?
2) Whose shit are they using? Are they like buying manure or are they saving their own shit?

"It'S kInD oF lIkE eAtInG dIrT" I hope someone reports them and their kids get taken away.
It sounds like they’re running a frat house, not a family home.

if anyone is confused, because i was for quite some time: its called 'crunchy' parenting because it relates to the crunch of a granola bar, you know, something natural and healthy that these neo-hippies are obsessed with. the opposite (medicine-oriented, disposable nappies, vaccination, formula, etc) is 'silky' parenting (not sure what they mean by that)
while some aspects of crunchy parenting are actually fairly acceptable (disposable nappies are pretty bad for the environment, for example), those new age retards get way out of hand, to the point theyre endangering their own children. that woman who potentially killed her own baby by not having labour induced at 45 weeks is a good example of that.
just because things are natural, does not mean they are better! dying in your teens because you got eaten by a leopard or caught typhus is natural for humans.

I was a ”crunchy” kid. It was a terrible experience I wouldn't wish on anyone. It's just frustrating and embarrassing.
Even as a kid, I had the sense that it wasn't really about me, but mom imposing her will on everybody else. These crunchy moms don't seem any different and I feel really bad for their kids.

Please go on, former-crunchy-melty

I always assumed it was a reference to peanut butter. Supposedly crunchy peanut butter is "more natural" and better for you. Most normal people prefer smooth peanut butter, though, because no one wants a crunchy sandwich. Theoretically, normal parents should be called "smooth," but since that word is already a personality descriptor, they chose "silky" instead. That's my theory, at least.

Crunchy is just smooth with some ground peanuts thrown in. The only natural peanut butter is the shit that separates out into oil. If it stays together without fractionating, it is not natural because you had to add some artificial shit to get it to do that. You can grind natural peanut butter coarsely, but it isn't going to consist of completely smoothly ground butter with some nuts in it.

I've always found that they are of the belief that society as a whole is a sort of poison and their super special spawn are above all of that.
I live in Sweden and here, homeschooling is only allowed if kids suffer from some severe medical condition.

Most of those here that wants homeschooling to be legal are explicitly right-wing. In their opinion public school teach children left-wing thoughts and values and are full of non-whites who will abuse kids for being white.

It's such a horrible idea that parents can teach their children. We should all be really thrilled at the idea of it being completely mandatory that only the government gets to feed children their ideas. After all, the government can completely be trusted, right? We shouldn't be at all fucking suspicious about that.

I've a fair bit of experience knowing a crunchy mom; somebody I know quite well, actually. She once informed me that she'd taken her boy to the hospital for some kind of ENT infection. Doctor prescribed antibiotics (smart fellow) and she retorted that "I already give him probiotics so I don't think he needs those."

After my sudden headache subsided a bit I asked her what she thought probiotics are supposed to accomplish? My understanding is that there's some purported benefits for overall health in balancing gut flora (which I don't know a lot about). In any case, I couldn't see what promoting gut flora had to do with inhibiting the growth of an infection in the head. She immediately got a bit terse and evasive with me; we'd had variations on this theme a few times at this point and she was wise to my game, I guess.I warned her that if she kept doctor-shopping and ignoring advice that they might just lose interest in her or, even worse, gain a special interest in her; her behavior was waving a big red flag that she might need looking into.

After that she never spoke to me about any of her crunchy stuff, but a few years after that last conversation on the subject she, her husband and her son were in a car accident. They totaled the car driving off of a low hill, hit a tree, blah blah car crash stuff. Anyway, EMS came out, everyone said they were fine so they went about their lives for about a week: that's when her son's lung collapsed. He'd had a cracked rib the whole time and it finally fractured entirely and punctured his lung. He was rushed to the children's hospital and it was all taken care of, thankfully. The part that really stuck with me about it is this: when she came to see him in hospital he asked her to leave. Said he just wanted his dad there. A boy of twelve said that. I think she made doctors and hospitals such a living nightmare for the kid that he just finally said "no mas" and kicked her out of the room.

What's horrible is that homeschooling doesn't have to meet any standards or follow any structure. There's no framework of protection around the children. How much abuse and neglect does homeschooling hide around the world? Government mandated schooling doesn't mean the teachers are working on an agenda, it means that the child gets to learn from people who actually know about the subject they're teaching.

Sweden has private schools too, man.

There’s schools in England that have existed for over a thousand years. The idea that parents who desired their children to learn academics would teach them themselves has never been the case. Romans hired Greek slaves as tutors. Now there’s women who don’t even have high school diplomas home schooling their kids and there’s no oversight on that.

Also I guarantee that if you told any teacher from any culture with literacy, whether that be the 19 year old girl on the American prairie or the monk at the medieval cathedral school or the Greek with his slates, that you were waiting for your child to learn to read by themselves and that’s why they’re 11 and can’t read but it’s fine, they would’ve laughed immensely.

Have you met an Education major? In America, at least. I would not let any of the ones I met teach my children. Most are not particularly well grounded intellectually, and know enough just to teach to a standardized test. There are, of course, exceptions, but overall, the curriculum in most of these programs coupled with the type of people that tend to get this major aren't the type of people that I would want teaching the next generation.

Yeah I'm more talking about countries where teaching isn't a fallback career for antisocial failures and you don't get shot in the lunch line.

I utterly hate it the
"this is what nature intended "
type mothers.

Here’s what nature really intended:

Age at first birth: 16-18
Years since menarche: less than 1
Life expectancy: 35 years
Maternal mortality: 1 per 100
Lifetime birth risk: 1 in 13
Neonatal mortality: 7 per 100
Number of children: 8-10

Nature also intended:

Miscarriage rate: 20%
Prematurity rate: 12%
Stillbirth rate: 1.9%

But yeah enjoy your midwives an sweat lodges you daft cunt

What would you guys prefer, having a crunchy mom experience or a neglectful but still gets you most basic medical care experience?
the crunchy parents (lesbehonest, usually just the moms) claim to care so much but it often hits the point of medical neglect, but with the parents who just don't give a shit you might be starved and nobodies taking you to soccer practice

Do the neglectful parents at least enroll you in school, or do they give absolutely zero fucks?
