It's probably just that anime and trooning out both overlap significantly with tism.
I read somewhere that autists are attracted to anime because they have trouble reading body language and facial cues, so the huge, simplistic, expressive facial features in anime (and a lot of western cartoons now) leave no room for subtlety when it comes to which emotions the characters are conveying at any time. This could be total bro-psychology but it makes sense.
Also lot of anime characters are just bunch of tropes, like tsundere, yandere, and so on, so the characters are simple and predictable unlike real people with real complex personalities. That is why you see trannies acting as anime characters instead of real men or women I think.
