iirc Colorado has no legal limits on when during pregnancy a woman can get an abortion. In practice I don’t think any doctors in the state would do one at 38 weeks, but in the case of genetic disorders and the like (basically all the kids in this thread lol) you can get one up to 34 weeks which is pretty far along. They don’t even call it an abortion at that point.Do you have more details on this? 38 weeks is basically full term, so unless I'm missing something (which is totally possible) that would be illegal everywhere in the US.
I can’t parse all the stupidity and willful ignorance on the part of her parents and her husband. They “couldn’t” delay the marriage so their daughter could complete her education?? The husband just says it’s “Allah’s will” if their kids have short, painful lives, and doesn’t care for IVF and embryo screening? I really wish we had good old-fashioned eugenics with forced sterilization for people like this.
Genetic issues aside they have extreme poverty and that’s the real reason for the high levels of abortion. They aren’t aborting due to potato babies, they are aborting due to sex selection and poverty. Unlike in the west they don’t get help feeding, clothing and sheltering their kids with state aid so if they have too many children everyone suffers. That's very interesting, I never knew that before. I've never really heard much about abortion in the middle east before, but it's kinda messed up that they're not as universally against it as fundies, considering that even fundies don't practice genital mutilation (but probably only because they didn't think of it first).
Does Pakistan have such high rates due to high levels of inbreeding? That they have a level of how fucked a baby/child can be even when deformities/health problems/mega tards just run in the family? Or is there another factor at work?
It’s all coming back to bite them in the ass too. It also greatly benefits the girls that were born.Actually, the reason is far more horrifying. In some parts of the world, in particular China and some heavily Islamic areas, girls are, to put it mildly, unwanted.
I found out a while back that in South Korea, it is illegal to tell parents the sex of a baby before it's born, for precisely this reason. The woman who told me about it said that she had a relative (either cousin or niece) whose husband was stationed there in the military, and even on US military bases, they couldn't do that. They can't even do that when the ultrasound picture is obvious to laypeople.
I thought the kid was in foster care (and thought the parents should be financially liable for him since it was an international adoption), but it sounds like they just foisted him off on someone they found on one of the shady rehoming FB groups. You would think the mom would be savvy enough by now to know she can’t get away with that, with her level of internet fame.Yikes. Looks like miss “I rehomed my adopted son” is under investigation now bc they can’t find the kid
Even in some normal mom groups I’ve seen moms post about pregnancy termination and without fail some Karen is like “I’LL ADOPT YOUR BABY!!!!!”Holy shit, there are Facebook groups that allow people to rehome children?
People have also done this shit via Craigslist as if they are rehoming an unwanted pet .Holy shit, there are Facebook groups that allow people to rehome children?
it's trafficking supply.I read some article a year or two back about people who decide to pass on adopted kids to other families and they basically get lost to all intents and purposes. Some of them totally disappear off anyone's radar. The adoption business (and it is a business) is an odd one, and even plenty of fostering is done purely for financial benefit. Some people literally warehouse shitloads of sped kids as fosters and they have far worse lives than if they'd lived in an institution.
Two or three generations of first cousin marriage has a lot to do with it, for sure. Here in tbe UK, kids of Pakistani heritage are way, way over-represented in the stats for genetic diseases. But of course we have free healthcare so there’s no financial or familial pressure to abort sick foetuses or even test them for abnormalities.
I saw a documentary about this some time ago I believe it was (this one: https://youtu.be/NkxuKe2wOMs)I really hope younger generations will stray away from cousin marriage shit, I remember hearing younger people have more negative opinions about it.
