They are bugging out of NYC hard now. Houses in the ghetto new england city I used to live in are going for 3x what they where just a few years ago in the Hasidic hood. My friend who still lives there says they are pooling their money together and doing basically what ever they have to do to get family members out of NYC. He may end up selling his house because he knows he will never ever get this kinda money for it again. A 3family house 2 doors down from him sold in 2008 for 100K was listed 330K and they got it almost instantly.

Judging by your friend's description, my rough guess is that some Hasidic rabbi and his court decided to leave NYC and set up in his city in order to buy up houses and start a community there. 330k sounds like a lot but in NYC, that wont even get you an apartment.
