So, I live in a small city in Australia with around 20k inhabitants. It's nothing special, just another stop on the way between Sydney and Brisbane honestly.
We had a BLM protest in our market square today.
The cancer spreads and spreads and spreads. There's no chopping off a limb to save the body anymore. If out of the way places like here (on the other side of the fucking world I might add) are descending into this insanity there's nothing we can do. We're terminal now. If blue cities dont go full retard and follow Minneapolis down the defund rabbit hole we're going to see more riots making more cops bitter leading to more cops just blowing away joggers leading to more riots. And the riots are going to grow and spread until I'm stuck watching my quiet little main street, nowhere burn like Chiraq.

I had nightmares last night of a horde of antifafaggots marching onto my property to confiscate my home and my belongings to help fund the revolution. They were screaming that I was a paleskin oppressor and for the crime of my birth I had to die.
I had guns. As per Australian law they were locked away.
I didnt make it to them in time.

My great granfather lived through actual, 1930s, dictatorial fascism. He was a huge commie so he refused to join the party. First he lost his (state) job because he was a wrongthinker. Then he got arrested by the fascist police and beaten for 2 days.
Now, almost 100 years later, I read about the "doxxing racist" tweets and how they want people to lose their livelihood for having a different opinion or even no opinion at all, I watch the videos of people being beaten for no reason.
The techniques these people are proudly adopting are very fucking fascist. It's kind of scary to see, especially from people who claim they're antifas.

Jackson County, Michigan barely has 160,000 people and a man tried to light a cop car on fire there last week and a car drove into protestors yesterday. The local protestors are harassing a downtown business for boarding up its windows and not making a suitable statement, tracking down people who disagree with them on Facebook, and making plans to visit what's starting to look like all the small villages in the county and beyond.

They are planning their route to go through a certain neighborhood because a woman lives there who they think is racist.

Didn’t they ban anti-lockdown protests on their platform that were also technically “illegal”? Kind of makes you think, especially since the anti-lockdown protests were much smaller and most people stayed in their cars.

I didn't recognize any of the faces, but I didnt stick around after I got my shopping done. Disclaimer: I'm starting to write this at 7 am in my morning, so my thoughts are a bit incoherent.

I wonder how all of you would feel if suddenly a ton of people who haven't done anything for the project appeared here, told you're a horrible person and started bullying you into doing what they want...

For almost a decade I've been doing pro-bono work on the style guides, RuboCop and many related projects, but all of this gets easily forgotten. You come out of nowhere, you vilify me over this, you fork the project without even discussing this idea with our team... Whatever. The US has many issues, but so does the open-source community. If even I wanted to rename the project we're talking about 300+ extensions, usages in tens of thousands of projects, messing up with search results that have been building up for years, etc, and an insane amount of work associated with this. I've made nothing out of RuboCop and now you're adding a huge pile of disappointment and frustration on top of this nothing.

This feels like a great opportunity to double down on the Ruby community ethos and get a ton of positive publicity by rebranding. At the same time, let's recognise that the request implies a bunch of time and even some material expense for @bbatsov (registered domain names, doc sites etc. beyond "just" renaming in code), and some help scoping that out would probably be appreciated if the request is to seem actionable.

@purcell It's nice to see you around! You might remember how the rename of nrepl.el to CIDER went down - this meant so much additional work and so many confused people for years, that I'd really don't want to walk this path again. And the funny thing is I'll get a lot of hate either way... A couple of years ago I had to undergo the painful process of renaming a widely used project again (tools.nrepl -> nrepl) and there are still people confused today about why there are two of them, why some deps don't work in some cases and so on.

Everyone, I understand your frustration very much. I've had my share of political activism, I truly support the cause of the people protesting in the US these days, but I think you've got no idea what you're really asking for. If you hate the name you're obviously free to do whatever you wish. I will only ask you to acknowledge the work our team has been doing for such a long time and be a bit more respectful of our time and efforts. I don't even do much Ruby myself these days, but I'm still dedicating a lot of time to RuboCop, because I love the Ruby community. Seems the feeling is not mutual.

P.S. I haven't seen RoboCop in a while, but I have a vague recollection he was a good guy, who was fighting against the oppressive system.

What we see now, in the US and parts of other nations worldwide, is exactly what happened in the Weimar Republic during the 1920's and early 1930's.
It's amok running commies totally out of control and nobody there to stop them, with governments or parts of it openly conspiring with them.
But what they did not expected was that the people became sick and tired of the daily street battles and the riots and they started to ask for a strong arm to end all that shit and the rest is history.
It's not that I'm saying there will be another Hitler, what I'm saying is that the people will get sick and tired of this shit and they too will start to ask for a "strong arm" to end all this bullshit. A pendulum always swing in two directions, that's what these commie dingbats always forget.
The riots in the US will have effects on all future elections, the "classic" dems won't vote for the Pocahontas, SJW, AOC dems anymore. RINO's will be ousted from the Rep's, hopefully, and so on and so forth.
Minneapolis is a fine example for the fact what happens when you elect a dumbass hipster kid into a job for an adult, some will learn from that, some maybe not.
