IMHO Tim Lim's biggest sin was creating Trump themed comics, it was very early into EVS Comicsgate Live career that Ethan singled Tim out on a mid-day stream I happened to catch where he espoused that to him (Ethan) to be truly CG, your comics had to be apolitical (which is of course, the Richard Meyer mantra.) Therefore Tim shouldn't be considered CG, because of that. That stream and his comments always stuck in my head because it just seemed to come out of nowhere.

Of course this got back to Tim which brought about the infamous "Transcripts" Comicsgate Live stream with Tim, and Doug Ernst also popping in on his behalf.

Now I've tried to find that Livestream, but I don't know if Ethan's removed it and YT search function is ass. As far as that first Livestream where he made those comments good luck, I know it was sometime between May and July 2018.

"No politics in your comics" was an EVS directive not a RCM one I think. Meyer didn't like seeing the identity politics being applied to existing characters. Everyone was on board with that.

I don't think anyone had issues with independents doing their own thing even if it was political. Lim's "Thump" book was huge. I heard about it long before I ever heard of CG because it was very much a mainstream success. Pretty sure Lim made a metric fuck ton of cash on Thump.

Watchmen and Return of the Dark Knight are both very political and better cape shit than Ethan will ever do. The difference is that those books didn't preach politics like the new Marvel stuff. Hell, SGM's White Knight dug into politics competently without lecturing the reader.

Ethan's notion that comics should have zero politics in them belies his lack of understanding about writing. Good writing that has politics is good and bad writing about politics sucks. I'm still gonna reread Watchmen despite Alan Moore being a retard Marxist goof when he wrote it but I'm gonna skip Coates run on Captain America and the diversity hire Korean Hulk.

He considers those kind of books too topical and thus instantly dated, unlike 'books for the ages' like Cyberfrog that will last the test of time just like Green Lantern Rebirth (LOL).

It was an offhand comment that resulted in a lot of reeeing about gate keeping that forced him to back-track and push Trump's Space Force by Lim pretty hard to make amends.

It was assumed that all that was resolved on the 'transcripts' stream where Tim arrived with a transcript of the livestream ready to prove EVS was gate-keeping him but EVS bent the knee and it turned into a nothingburger.
Lim however seems to have spent most his time since that quietly seething about the slight and plotting his revenge as his alter ego 'The Glove' (LOL) and spent his time trying to quietly build a coalition of OGCG to undermine EVS.
