Why wouldn't you take it at face-value? If someone says "I demand that we defund the police!" you take that as is- how the hell are we supposed to know that it's doublespeak for something else?

I am 100% convinced that these idiots did want to "defund the police" in the most literal sense at first. And then something made them slam on the breaks and go "Uh, heh heh, nah, we meant we just want to downsize and reform them! Where'd you get that crazy "abolish the police" shit from?"

I don't know if their political/corporate overlords told them to walk that shit back, I don't know if someone managed to light up a little gray-matter and realized that tanking the cops would screw them over more than help them (or maybe they just realized that no cops=no more convenient scapegoat), but I genuinely believe that when they first said "defund the cops", they meant it in the most literal sense.

Yep, it's like the slogan is designed to fail. Remember when Austria-Hungary sent demands to Serbia that were so absurd the Serbs would have to reject them, thereby justifying war? It's like the Dems are trying the party-politics equivalent of that, trusting that the media will play the role that the censored press did in 1914. Imagine being so invested into "Diversity" that you turn into Austria-Hungary!

It goes both ways. My family is from deep south and there are many times I was the only non-black on the block and it's not a comfy situation. Even if you stop by a taco bell to get food, they basically guarantee spitting in it, they shove your shit at you like you're crashing a party. Everyone's human. They like what's comfortable and familiar.

I think a lot of the guilty race shit has to do with these social science types looking horrifiedly at a potential future where they weren't as progressive as they could've been, leaving them as the weird racist old grandma in 2088. They're pushing hard to future proof themselves and show See? Right side of history all along" and SJW-ism seems like a safe bet.

The FBI wants the dummy to blow up a Federal building, the DHS wants him to blow up an airport, the state LE wants him to blow up local government, and the ADL snitch wants him to paint a swastika on a synagogue. The TL;DR is that less-than-lethal means of incapacitating a person require training to pull off, while using a gun at point-blank range is as simple as pointing and pulling the trigger. Most police department funds go toward training, meaning that should the police be defunded, officers with less training and less confidence in their ability to subdue an attacker will be far more reliant on their guns.

"Defund the police" is a fine piece of sloganeering whereas "reform and restructure" doesn't quite roll off the tongue.

These people love pop culture and have fetishized dystopian futures and fictional settings to the point where they truly believe they'd be a comfy place to be. They don't realize that the real versions of what they imagine are terrifying and have existed already. They also tend to believe they're going to be at the top of the social hierarchy in whatever communist future they take part in, overseeing the kindly workers day to day.
