Completely agree. Though, correct me if I'm wrong, didn't the US Government at the time pour loads of funding into the IRA, thus perpetuating the whole shitstorm for far longer than was needed? I could be wrong, but I'm sure that was the case.

No the IRA never got funding from the US government but prior to 2001 the US could be quite lenient on Irish Republicans even letting some go on gun running charges.
I can really see the like of Weather Underground or Symbionese Liberation Army type groups reappearing in the US at the moment.

No the government didn't, but there was plenty of money raising in Boston that they never cracked down on.

I’m mildly surprised they didn’t physically attack the cops.

I also find it hilarious that they immediately turned to them in an emergency rather than deal with it themselves. After all isn’t it ACAB, abolish police, etc. etc. etc.

If the guy is dead or dies, I expect to see his name as a “unarmed black man killed by police” on a list.

The US government didn't but some Irish Americans did IIRC. Most of the IRA's money and weapons support came from Libya and East Germany.
