It sounds dramatic but when countries are threatening to remove historical statues (and in some cases following through with it), condemning films and other media, pushing out 24/7 propaganda ON EVERY PLATFORM, firing people, revoking scholarships and the like, doxxing children and condoning murder, I really do fear how this will all end.

What's the endgame here? I always felt comfortable with the thought that these nutters would never get the power they wanted but now they are so how far will it go?

This is the end result of trying to bring out a boogeyman who refuses to spring into existence on command. They are so crazed about tilting at a self-created windmill they've become the monsters they cried about. Thing is, it's having the same effect, ironically, as previous civil rights movements. One group who hates another is trying to enforce that perception on everyone, but their actions betray them as guilty of all the crimes they accuse others of, and the rest of the world's stomach is churning at what these self appointed guardians of what they consider appropriate are doing.

seriously though, I don’t know. A group of very unpleasant people has had a couple of decades to infiltrate schools, the media and academia, and we have social media and tech racing ahead so fast that humanity’s social ability to cope with it isn’t keeping up. We have mass immigration, vast inequality, and cultures forced together who just do not like each other. Plus hostile actors domestic and foreign formenting dissent. Then add in a black swan event like corona and the mental health strain of keeping people isolated, the tank the economy... i honestly think we are going somewhere pretty bad for a few years.
When you look back through history, things like inequality of wealth, mass movement and ecological stressors are key events that align with huge social upheaval. I would say there’s nothing new under the sun, except I think that the social media aspect is something genuinely novel for us. For me the question is how bad the push and pushback will be.
Anyway, I don’t know, but I’ll feel smug clutching my fiver in the burnt out ruins of civilisation.

Kinda late, but here's a fun fact- I went to Costa Rica on vacation last summer and visited a coffee plantation. A worker there who I was chatting with told me, snickering, that the Costa Rican plantations keep the best beans for their own brews and sell their shit-tier beans to big foreign companies like Starbucks. So all those people who talk about Starbucks like it's the drink of the gods are actually drinking super shitty coffee.

(Can confirm that the Costa Rican coffee is literally the best. I usually despise the taste of coffee, but my friend convinced me to try one of the brews they were selling at the little cafe on the plantation and holy shit it was one of the best things I've ever drank. An absolutely perfect cup of coffee.)

Imagine being some shitlib city mutt who genuinely thinks Starbucks or any other big chain coffee stores makes good coffee. Unless you are getting one of those ice frappes which barely resemble coffee and require a little bit of effort to make at home, don't go there. If you want coffee, go buy it at the supermarket and make it yourself or go to one of those small coffee roasters if you can find one.

I remember years ago I found this small coffee shop that sourced beans from all the best places. Costa Rica, Colombia, Ethopia etc. You could sit in and drink/eat, or you could buy the various beans for your own use. It was way cheaper in the long run drinking and eating from there than one of those chain cafes and the coffee, the real deal, was excellent. Became one of my favourite places to study and do work during university. Quiet and they didn't mind me sitting there for hours doing work and dosing myself to the eyeballs with caffeine. Of course, no one else went there because they either blew all their money on booze or on soymilk pumpkin spiced lattes or whatever the hell Starbucks produces.

Black actor Alfred Fagon's statue attacked in Bristol

A statue of the Jamaican poet, playwright and actor Alfred Fagon has been doused with a bleach-like substance.
The monument in St Pauls, Bristol was erected in 1987 on the first anniversary of his death.
Mr Fagon was the first black person to have a statue erected in their honour in the city.
It is thought the attack happened overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday and was reported to police on Thursday.

Who was Alfred Fagon?
He was born in Jamaica in 1937, the third of nine brothers and two sisters.
At the age of 18 he came to England to work on the railways before joining the army before moving to Bristol to work as a welder in the 1960s.
One of his first plays, No soldiers in St Pauls, explored the social tension between the police and the black community in 1970s Bristol.
His final role was in the BBC's Fighting Back, set in St Pauls, Bristol.
He died suddenly from a heart attack on 28 August 1986 outside his flat in Camberwell, London.
At the time police claimed they were unable to identify him and he was given a pauper's funeral.
The annual Alfred Fagon Award was named after him and is for playwrights of Caribbean or African descent, resident in the UK.
