Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

So Trump announced that he was going to go back on the campaign trail and have his rallies again.

Of course, the media went "REEEEEEEE muh Coronavirus!"

Oh, so now Corona-Chan is a concern again? Based on how the media has been covering things over the past two weeks, I thought Corona-Chan was gone!

From what I understand cases are spiking again. So yeah.

The biggest "spike" this week was 20,200 cases. Last week, the biggest number in one day was 23,200 cases. The week before that, 23,800 cases. The week before that, 25,000 cases. So yeah, there was a spike, but it was still lower than the last few spikes we've had. Maybe it's a trend, but considering these spikes have been occurring regularly for weeks now and always go back down, it's hardly a guarantee.

A county in Southern California just rescinded their mask requirement. As expected, Twitter is absolutely seething.

My dad—who was literally on Bernie's campaign—said we should do these lockdowns and social distancing every flu season. And yeah, he was cheering on the riots and defunding of police.

So glad I'm getting my CS & Math degree in less than a year so I can get a job and move out no matter how bad the economy is.

I'm more concerned that the more overzealous governors will use these "spikes" as an excuse to extend the lockdowns.

We had our biggest spike yet today since this whole shebang got started. I'm sure some of the protesters and looters are among them. Next Friday, Trump is kicking off rally season here in Oklahoma. I can't say I'm thrilled about what that probably means for us, but at this point I've resigned myself to catching the virus anyway.

Still can't believe EVERY university went temporarily test-optional this year BECAUSE of coronavirus freakout fuckery.

Like yeah, test dates got cancelled, but many major school districts went universal pass-fail this semester and just assigned class grades based on the first half of the year, making ONE THIRD, and what's supposed to be the most IMPORTANT third, of the high school transcript highly iffy, additionally completely fucking with the ability to show academic growth.

So now that there's way fewer data points, what's the logical next step? Have the currently test-optional schools require SAT/ACT scores to ensure SOME data points? No, make it optional FUCKING EVERYWHERE because people couldn't take it in spring of their junior year. Yeah, have FUCKING IVIES (potentially) judge applicants based entirely on freshman and sophomore grades and extracurriculars. HOW THE NIGGER JEW FUCK ARE IVIES SUPPOSED TO MAKE HIGH-STAKES ADMISSIONS DECISIONS BASED ON THAT FEW FUCKING DATA POINTS!?!?!??!?!?????? Have them take the damn tests (and subject tests) in senior year and push back the deadlines so November and December 2020 scores can be submitted for early action, and January and March 2021 scores can be submitted for regular decision, jesus christ!

I KNOW they're just doing this monumentally retarded shit as an excuse to be able to exclusively pick wealthy kids and minorities make admissions more "holistic," but it still pisses me the fuck off.

Heyoooo spain news time. And this time it's with a bit of an add on.

The 8M case finally got entirely thrown altogether. So hooray for sanity. And Vox has immediately answered by opening a new judicial case attempting to throw out 29 congressmen over exercizing their right to freedom of speech in reasonable ways. *slow clap.* it's increasingly obvious Vox's strategy is to just try everything legally to get a coup going. And it'll keep failing. PP has stepped it up by trying to get the EU to attack spain economically. And people are calling them out. So it seems the right wing is just on the most utterly incompetent attempts at destruction possible. They've lost all sense of decency.

As for Corona. Galicia will finally go straight to new normal, madrid and some small provinces are stuck on phase 2. The rest of us are still stuck on phase 3, but outside of the small outbreak in basque country there is no real news. So... I promised you I'd be signaling the end of the rona by cheering with you all with a cold glass of moscatel.

Cheers!

For the record moscatel is meant to be drunk cold but not typically with ice. It's kind of a wine. But I forgot to put the bottle on the fridge this morning after I ran out yesterday. So... welp. Hope you'll get to cheer the end on your country too soon enough. It's been an honor.

I guess we're going to be pretending that the last two weeks didn't happen.

Remember when President Trump burned all those cities down and deployed the national guard for no reason at all? That was a weird couple of weeks.

If only I could live there....

I'm more concerned that the more overzealous governors will use these "spikes" as an excuse to extend the lockdowns.
Well, the Ohio bitch is gone so there may be some hope after all.

You want to know why Southern California dems never make it to the top of the state government? It’s because the dems in the north around San Francisco believe that SoCal dems are Republicans in disguise. They still view them as dinos even if they are to the left of Stalin. There are still a ton of little towns in Orange County that will fight against the restrictions and the county listens to them even if the dems have made ground in the region. There are a lot of rich people in the county and they have power.

in totally-virus-free-we're-not-making-up-the-numbers-you-guys news, there was an outbreak in Beijing.

A large number of armed personnel in Beijing took over the new wholesale market at the source of the epidemic, which is comparable to the southern China seafood market in Wuhan.

https://twitter.com/caijinglengyan/status/1271627082632552448 this account is pretty good for random China leaks, btw. This account is also reporting that banking is being limited to prevent account holders from moving money to foreign banks, but being China it's barely possible to corroborate this information, on top of being in Chinese.
