The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will require films to meet “representation and inclusion standards” prior to eligibility for awards.

The Oscars didn’t reveal any details of the new standards, according to a news releaseshared by the organization Friday.

“While the Academy has made strides, we know there is much more work to be done in order to ensure equitable opportunities across the board,” Academy CEO Dawn Hudson said in a statement. “The need to address this issue is urgent. To that end, we will amend—and continue to examine—our rules and procedures to ensure that all voices are heard and celebrated.”

“Through the dedication, focus, and concerted effort of our Board of Governors and members on the branch executive committees, the Academy has surpassed the goals of our A2020 initiative,” Academy President David Rubin said. “But to truly meet this moment, we must recognize how much more needs to be done, and we must listen, learn, embrace the challenge, and hold ourselves and our community accountable.”

The initiative was created to “advance inclusion in the entertainment industry and increase representation within its membership and the greater film community.”

A task force consisting of industry leaders will be formed by the end of July, according to the news release.

The move to become more inclusive comes after the Oscars were criticized in 2016 under the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite after no people of color were nominated for awards for two years in a row.

Award shows in general are bore feats. It’s always the same people with the same saccharine speeches and bland performances. Award show viewership has been dwindling for a long time, and the only time people suddenly care is if someone unexpected wins or if a massive scandal happens. They should go back to not televising these and just get themselves off in private.

Because if there’s anything Americans really tune in for it’s vacuous millionaires screeching about idpol.

Are they purposefully trying to tank the show ala Major League or something so they can sell off the show to a streaming service? This is just going to make the acceptance speeches even more sanctimonious and intolerable.

Wasn't this already the case more or less after the "#OSCARSSOWHITE" fiasco a couple years ago? Black people won basically everything after that.

BAFTA announced they were doing this "you have to meet a certain diversity threshold or you aren't eligible" shit a few years ago. It was cringe then and it's cringe now.

That stupid blackpipo hair animated short was a total diversity win. Kitbull looked really nice. It had a classic animation style. But it wasn't about a kid who just needed a damn hot comb so...

Anyway, I guess we will be seeing a lot of terrible feature films getting nominated for best picture and every other year they will get a pity win for whatever gay black tranny tripe they passed off as art. I hate this world. *sigh*

Black NASCAR actually sounds like a fucking hoot. Replace stock cars with blingmobiles and limos and shit and have them run around the track. Every 30 laps allow drivebys with tommyguns during overtakes for one lap. Last car rolling wins

Jesus that would cost a FORTUNE

And not just the automobiles! Just think of all the wrongful death lawsuits filed by the families of dead spectators who were in the wrong place (BLASCAR stands) at the wrong time (BLASCAR match).

Last good era for Oscar bait type movies was the early to mid 2000s, it’s been on a downward slide for the last decade.

Question: Would Parasite meet these criteria? Its cast and crew was 100% Koreans from Korea.
Don't be silly, 'diversity' means non-white. 100% non-white is a victory for diversity!

Well, participation awards have made it to the oscars. But it’s only for minorities.

Fuck this clown world shit.
Guillermo Del Toro got one a couple of years ago for his fish-fucker movie. Leo DiCaprio got one for that awful bear movie. I think they gave Ben Affleck one for directing that schlock hostage film. None based on merits, all just rectal head pats.

The Oscars have been hollywood circle jerk for decades. They are a celebration of high production values and fantastic lighting in movies made by creatively bankrupt nepotism-installed sycophants, written by dangerhair university ideologues. This move cements the death of Hollywood. They already produce almost entirely garbage.
