@Connor , I just want you to know that I'm about to ruin a perfectly good student's academic credibility because she chose to plagiarize a published work--far less extensively than you did, by the way.

Perfectly good except for plagiarism, which is a pretty big dent in "perfectly" good. Sorry you have to do it, but there needs to be zero tolerance for that shit.

What about emailing her and suggesting she change that paragraph and not plagiarize in the future? I think scaring her straight would be a lot better than ruining her academic career.

Gotta follow guidelines. If I find evidence of plagiarism, I have to report it. Like as not, they will be the ones to scare her straight and she'll end up on academic probation, which means she gets to stay in school and she will still be eligible for financial aid.

I'm literally sick to my stomach over this, and I'm half-hoping that my findings are wrong, but in my heart, I know they're not.

One paragraph, man. That's all it took.

So I probably should not have taken random paragraphs from old Star Wars novels and wove them together than?

Not for your final paper, no, unless your thesis is comparative styles and the comfort of interchangeability in genre fiction.

ETA: now that I think about it, a few years ago there was a young author who did exactly this, but with Highlander fanfic.

With Connor busy at school and working on short stories, I'm going to confess something to you guys:

I miss our little boy so much my heart may actually burst. I hope that he's finishing up his math class in true 80's style (with a leather jacket, wayfarers, and a single middle finger raised towards authority) and getting some good writing in.

To slake our thirsts during this dark drought, I bring you sweet content from deep in histories well.

It would read like most of the Star Wars EU tbh.

You know I'm usually on top of stuff like this but what did Connor plagiarize? We all know RE was unoriginal, but I don't remember that he outright stole paragraphs from other work because I feel like shit and anyway I think I wasn't in the thread when you guys found that out.

re Alphaboy's first 2013 concept, I love how he decides to begin he story with Sean as a zygote and thinks that's all deep and poignant. gross :\

nooooo don't feel bad, semper fi princess

when the nice girl gets snarky, we know she means business

(I don't know you, but everyone says you're super nice, and from your posts I would tend to believe that)
That's because she IS super nice and anyone who disagrees gets a paddlin.

I'm chilling out at Hunting Island, and my current semester at TCL is about to draw to a close. After that's done, I'll have some free time to get some short stories written before the next semester begins. Also, dig the new avatar!
Sounds like a plan.

How well are you doing in your current math class?

Also, how many classes do you plan on taking next semester?
