Porn and Porncows

Its still not quite the same as Japan. Porn is still largely seen as something done out of desperation in the west, a route of last resort, as this very thread can attest. You work in porn in the west, and you pretty much can't work in any other job, and your social status is basically one half notch above prostitute. Very few pornstars have enjoyed crossover success really. Sibel Kikelli (who you pointed out as Tyrion's girlfriend) and Sasha Grey are probably the two biggest examples, and even Sasha Grey isn't that big of a name, while Sibel is more well known in Europe, which is more open about sex than the U.S. in general.

In Japan, porn is seen as a legitimate career path and AV idols are well known mainstream media personalities and household names even during their porn careers. And, as I said, many AV idols start out in the entertainment industry garnering mainstream success before going into porn, so you have plenty of people making the transition the other way around, something which is practically unheard of in the west outside of the extremely washed up. In Japan, many music artists and other media personalities will transition to porn for a while then just return back to doing what they were doing before at a later date.

I think you have pornstars confused with gravure models. No way you become a celeb in Japan after a 20 man bukkake session

Even Kink(dot)com changed. They went from being the platform that produced really extreme stuff (including a pornstar losing her virginity on a livestream) to being the most generic hipster BDSM site. I'm sure a bunch of shit happened behind the scenes that forced them to change.
Kink.com was always the generic hipster BDSM site.

Kink was setup by ex-Insex staff/members and they saw how the feds harassed Insex so they always played it much safer. Insex was cut off by the banks in 2006 and whatever you think of the guy who ran it you can't deny the playbook against him is the same as what's being used against others today.

Insex did come back and is still around but the banks impose restrictions on them so it's not like it was in the 90's/00's (yeah they really were livestreaming BDSM in 1997... no wonder senators thought it was a real Videodrome).

I think some people believe the harder Insex stuff is Kink due to the shared staff/models/etc. Even the the Kink virginity scene was a crossover with Insex I believe.

I think it's all fake, they don't really fight. It's probably scripted.
When Kink first launched the wrestling site they shut it down quickly after because they said the models wouldn't use their safewords and would keep fighting to win the money. It launched again like a year later and I would guess it's all fake from that point. (E: Seems like it was only 1-2 months downtime, only gap I can find in their catalogue is Sep-Oct 2004).

I understand acting like Rocky Balboa if it is a proper prizefight, but what basically comes down to a pornscene with a bit of extra money if you win a playfight before? Kinda shows the desperation, doesn't it?

Not specifically wrestling but this issue comes up in the Insex documentary. Half of the girls are serious fetishists and would do it even if they weren't paid and the other half are desperate druggies. The problem is the founder didn't care and would hire anyone who applied.

In Japan, porn is only seen as a legit career if you stick to softcore only.

Hardcore porn more or less has the same stigma In Japan as it does in the United States

Most of the AV idols that become mainstream entertainers are "gravure models" like @Higgins already pointed out. IIRC, the gravure videos are more or less like a Japanese equivalent of the old Skinemax movies of the 90's and 2000's or like a video version of Playboy.

I remember back in the 2000s there was this show called Cinematech: Nocturnal Emissions that had footage of something called Motion Gravure Series, and it's basically what you said: the Japanese equivalent of Victoria's Secret catalogs. https://hooktube.com/watch?v=k8xHfCTMspY

As I recall, there's like two types of gravure.

One is girls in bikinis and is more in line with Maxim/FHM/Victoria's Secret/Sears Catalog

The other involves actual nudity but no actual sex like Playboy Magazine or Skinemax.

The first is slightly more respectable than the second, but both are far more reputable than the actual hardcore porn movies. Almost of the "AV Idols" come from the nude gravure videos, IIRC.

IIRC, the kink.com sites' model interviews before and after are there solely because the payment processors demanded that in order for them to be able to use their services.

Gravure Idols are not the same as AV idols, and, yes, both Gravure Idols and AV Idols become mainstream famous in Japan. Gravure Idols are basically mainstream models doing slightly more risque photo shoots, and, like AV idols, most of them go on to other forms of fame, like acting and singing. There is some overlap (many gravure idols later do just start doing AV work, and vice versa), but they are still functionally different industries. Note that while Japanese attitudes towards porn, on the whole, are much lighter than in the U.S. and the stigma in Japan is nowhere near the same, that doesn't necessarily mean that individuals will not hold stigma towards the industry. This is all in general terms.

The Gravure business also has its underbelly. Well, its not really an underbelly, as its well known and out in the open, and that is the area of Junior idols or chidols for short, which are basically young children and preteens who shoot risque photos in bikinis and lingerie just like the adult and teen women, striking all kinds of risque poses, doing "cheesecake" shots and the like and and doing other eye brow raising things. And this is all completely legal in Japan. Many of them do end up going to the AV industry.

How's the porn parody genre doing?

I remember that Star Wars porno they did. Lexington Steele played Darth Vader and Tom Byron Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Not sure how it's doing now, but I get the feeling that porn parodies are the kind of thing that will never fully go away and have always been around.

The "Tijuana Bible" flip book comics were more or less porn parodies mixed with the 1920's and 1930's equivalent of Rule 34.

Maybe this is the nostalgia talking, but I always kinda liked the softcore "Skinemax" porn parodies and pastiches. They had a sort of dumb campy charm to them, especially the Misty Mundae flicks from the early 2000's with all the lame sex puns and comically bad acting.

You also had a lot of comedic softcore flicks that weren't so much parodies as they were pastiches of certain movie genres or concepts, although some of them did have alternate titles that made them look like straight-up parodies depending on the cable channel they aired on. Still funny and had that campy goofball charm, but it feels less like an obvious spoof and more like a cheapo B-movie with tits.

Makes sense, since most of them were directed by Fred Olen Ray under a fake name according to IMDB, and he's known for directing direct-to-video and direct-to-cable B-Movies in the 80's and 90's.

Is she an actual porn star, or just an onlyfans thot? There is a difference, the whole taking dick on camera for money bit.
Much as I dislike them, diluting the term "porn star" and "sex worker" to include anyone showing a bit of skin seems dishonest.
But I guess that is the point, if they are going to normalize this behaviour.

Looks like it's half and half, she does some videos on Pornhub getting banged. But it's mostly her OnlyFans what caught most people's attention.

Anyways, here's a video of her getting into another sticky situation, when she was on V8 Supercars

the boom has been over for years now, its been like 5 years since they had good parodies. porn parodies were always loss leaders sort of like those "sexy holocaust victim" or "sex pizza" customers on websites, mainly there to pull people to the site and then they would find sexier things to jack off to. the sex isn't even great in most of these because everyone usually keeps their clothes on like mormons.

it was mainly a way to show off porn entertainers acting skills and writing skills.
