Even if you wanted a bleak dark ending wouldn't something like this be better?
During the fight, Abby stabs Ellie, then ellie snatches back the knife and kills abby. Then she looks at her wounds and she's lost a lot of blood, and she's going to die. So she sits alongside a rock, thinking about what she's done and now that it's been done, she's killed 2 more people. Abby and the boy in the boat who's going to starve and die. As she thinks about it, sitting and bleeding, her life fades away. In the end, nobody wins.

Apparently she was crucified for days at that point, but she was still able to walk a good distance without problems, put an unconscious adult on a boat and subdued a healthy woman in a fight. All of this while she was sustaining injuries and possibly malnourished.
