Maybe he believes the leftie narrative that the trade war was completely ineffective and only served to sabotage America, and that the left-wing chimpouts are completely organic and totally the result of Trump dividing the nation, while China makes gains under our noses. Perhaps the truth is that both sides are correct, Trump is owned by Russia, and the Democrats are owned by China, and that's the choice we have.
