Valve monetizes mods (With Bethseda Launcher and Open Beta for Modding Released, Possible Return?)

The worst part of this, the second one basically plagiarizes Neverwinter Nights 2. Seriously taking Bishop and Casavir and putting the two in a Skyrim mod mean't to be husbando's. The third one: what may as well be two edgelords, both of whom I feel would meet the same fate as Lucien LaChance in Oblivion if they actually met Sithis.

As I said before, The sheer amount of mad this is inciting gives me the feeling a backtrack will be happening soon.

Glad I got my 125 mods sorted and figured out before this shitstorm.

I'll play till my Orc is level 99 then see if the mod world still exists.

Yup, Was just pointing out that its kinda nice to see him follow through with his word. No the big question is will the other mods that require SKSE and etc will follow through.

Though the best result would be for valve to undo this whole debacle and rework it into something more.... sensible.

Holy shit, seriously? That's fucked up

When I first saw the headline, I actually thought it was a pretty good idea. There are lots of Skyrim mods that basically qualify as full fledged content in their own right, and I'd be willing to pay money for some of them. But it looks like Valve is being pretty scummy about this.

Oh believe me. It would be as simple as the SKSE guys saying "Putting your mods up for sale? well they better not use SKSE then" for this entire thing to be brought to a screeching halt. People are livid about this. Ive seen anger on the /r/gaming, /r/games, /r/PCmasterrace, /r/steam, and /r/skyrim subreddits. /v/ is losing its shit, and there is a almost 15k signatures petition going on asking to remove pay mods.

I don't get the impression that most modders particularly wanted to monetize their stuff anyway. I'm not surprised it's Beth that did this first, considering their infamous QA. They're basically shanghaiing the mod community into finishing their games for them under this deal.
 
The infamous HD Horse Pussy mod was reuploaded on Workshop for $100 but it looks like it got taken down.
Considering how someone made that, one wonders why? At least this helps when trying to think. Really, why even sell that sort of thing?

I wonder how they'd feel in getting a possible lawsuit from Hasbro. MLP mods do use the IP and copyrighted characters owned by Hasbro.

I could understand monetizing very, very.. very few mods (An example would be the upcoming "expansion" for Skyrim which is fully voiced, has a brand new soundtrack and is going to be epic). But a large majority of them are hair imports from the sims games or an edit of an edit of an edit from someone's elses mod and the modding community can be one big clusterfuck. I see a lot of content creators likely sticking with their free services like before since they already made the mods for free in the first place. Maybe asking for donations. I honestly don't see a lot of modders going for paid services, but I'm probably being horribly optimistic.

Heh. Yeah. I can't imagine what the outcry would have been if they had rolled this out for all their games at once.

You know, this happened with the Sims and all it really accomplished was dividing the community. The p2p cc wasn't really any better than the free cc you could get elsewhere, and in some cases it was actually worse *cough*tfsims*cough*.
I really can't see this working out any better with Skyrim.
