Flags & Vexillology

Went for the Chile's Lone Star and found some other stuff:

800px-Flag_of_Coquimbo_Region,_Chile.svg.png
Ugliest shit I've ever seen. (Coquimbo Region, Chile.)

Flag_of_Magallanes,_Chile.svg.png
It honestly didn't cross my mind that the peaks represented mountains until now. It looks cool irl, but now it seems kinda autistic. (Magallanes y la Antártica Chilena Región, Chile)

1280px-Bandera_Mapuche_Wüñellfe.jpg
Flag used by the Mapuche during the Arauco war against colonial Spaniards.

(Thumbnails for precaution. On mobile, sorry for the shitty formatting.)

Thoughts on the best and worst Canadian territory/province flags?
My opinion:
Worst is a tie between B.C and P.E.I (both are too busy)
Best is a tie between the (modern) Nunavut, and Nova Scotia (classic)

Newfoundland's flag is hot garbage, followed closely by PEI. Quebec's is probably the best, since it's simple and elegant, as is Nova Scotia's.

Nefoundland's old flags are objectively better, even the faggy variant.

The Newfoundland Tricolor, used to represent the island
1920px-Dominion_of_Newfoundland_Red_Ensign.svg.png

The flag of the Dominion, before Newfoundland willingly became a British colony because it was so poorly managed.

Apart from the Newfoundland flag, though, Canadian flags beat practically every American state flag.

I think the Quebec flag best compliments the Canada flag, since they're both only two colours each.

New Brunswick might have the most interesting flag, with the galley ship.

Finally, a thread I can get behind.

How has Hezbollah's flag not been posted yet? It's an absolute masterpiece.
I think it has, but I could be wrong. Personally I think it's an interesting concept but a little too busy.

Here's a flag of the Syrian Resistance, a Marxist-Leninist group that supports the Assad government in Syria. I don't know why they call themselves a resistance if they're supporting the government. Maybe they got it from Star Wars or something. I also don't know why Marxists are supporting Assad, but I'll admit they have a pretty cool flag.

Let's celebrate Pride Month with some truly horrendous fag flags. Literally all of their color schemes are hot garbage, and the only one that's arguably good is the lesbian flag, just because it looks like something a dwarven clan would have for their banner.

Does the demisexual flag look like a shittier, depressing version of the Czech national flag for anyone else?

Now for some Latin American flags
National_Synarchist_Union_flag.png
The Mexican National Synarchist Union. I really like this one, though I'm not sure how I feel about the placement of the letters.
300px-Flag_of_National_Socialist_Movement_of_Chile.svg.png
Chilean National Socialist Party. I like the colors on this one, I'll have to agree with the above poster about yellow/orange in flags being cool.
1200px-FPMR_Chile.SVG.png
Most of the Latin American socialist/communist movements had boring flags, but the FPMR's really had character. Plus, they had a kickass anthem to go with it.

What does the lesbian flag represent again? Why is it a real symbol and not just a bunch of pastel stripes? Anyway, here's a flag for content. It was proposed as a replacement for the flag of Minnesota.View attachment 1391344
Does it entirely matter what the lesbian flag represents when they've created a category called Neutrois? Personally, it looks like they were going for a uterus. Either that or they were taking the butch thing a bit too far.

Something something battle-axe of a woman, something something highest domestic abuse rates among lesbian couples.

Not too sure beyond that. Also what the fuck is a neutrois?

Gay shit aside, here's the colonial battle flag of Vermont used at the Battle of Bennington. Much more original than the current State flag.

Nice flag, I always like the blue and green color scheme. Position of the stars is a little odd. Does it represent a specific constellation?

Nope, the number is what's important, Vermont is the 14th State in the Union and there are 14 stars in the canton. It's still in use by the Vermont National Guard, even if in a quasi unofficial capacity. Prior to the upgrade to the F-35 the Air Guard unit had the battle flag as part of their tail livery on certain F-16s.

Lots of history for a blue and green flag with some stars spilled on it.

The current American flag is pretty ugly. Fifty vector objects shoved into one corner, fattening horizontal stripes going left and right (not even across the whole flag, but in a lopsided half-ass sort of way.) It's like someone had a fetish for tiny stars and decided their country needed to show it had more tiny stars than anybody.

Big fuck-off authoritative emblems will always be a top-tier design choice for a flag. This one still has tiny stars but at least it's localized in a small space.

Honorable mention to the city of Surabaya, whose flag features two apex predators about to get into a street fight.

I wish USA’s flag was either just the bars or the stars. Preferably the latter.

The NYPD has a sweet flag. It's much cooler than the thin blue line American flag, IMO although I guess the message isn't as universal.

Other interesting American Flag variants:
1592629217350.png

The US Civil Flag, aka the US Civil Flag of Peace. This flag is actually based on a misunderstanding of a line in a Nathaniel Hawthorne novel about a US the old US Customs Services Flag, which did have verticle instead of horizontal stripes and a white canton with a blue US Coat of Arms on it. This line of text spawned a conspiracy theory that the modern US flag is actually the military flag because the US has been living under martial law since either the Civil War or WW2, and the correct flag should look like the one above. It's used as a symbol to protest government overreach and by some civilian militias.

1592629535063.png

The flag of the Florida Secession, also called the Chase Flag, flown when Florida joined the Confederacy. It's very similar to the Liberian Flag, except this one has a larger blue canton and star, which go down to the fourth red stripe, while the Liberian Flag only goes down to the third.

1592629669408.png

Speaking of the Liberian Flag, here's the flag of the short lived Republic of Maryland, which was Liberia's neighbor in that part of Africa before it voluntarily joined with Liberia for protection against native tribes. Maryland had more free blacks join the American Colonization Project than any other state, and for a while they tried to set up their own separate country. The yellow and black stripes reflect the Maryland Flag and the white cross reflects the Christian faith of the members of the citizens, in contrast to the native Africans around them.

Shoutouts to whoever left the old Romanian flag in the sun and decided that it represents pansexuals.

I always liked the Zimbabwe Rhodesia flag. Simple and to the point. Though the Hungarian color scheme on the right could use a change.

Here's a rainbow of one-color flags.
Maldives, 1796 to 1903. Two other non-commie countries that had a solid red flag were the Sultanates of Muscat and Aussa.
1592675707809.png

The Ayyubid dynasty, 1171 to 1260.
1592675813879.png

Libya under Gaddafi. Probably the most famous example.
1592675555853.png
Afghanistan, 1996 to 1997. Also used as the French naval jack from 1815 to 1830 (yes I know).
