This is literally how it was taught to me in school. It now occurs to me that I guess that's not normal. How the fuck is it taught normally? Germans just turned "evil" one day?
Usually? That Germany lost the war, Hitler was cunning, Germany specifically hated the Jews, and this mastermind patron of evil seized power because he got voted in and not much else.
Little discussion of the Weimar era at all, of the breakdowns that occurred due to the great depression (and how the US helping alleviate the war reparations in tandem with the SPD coalition was essentially what held off radicalism until the US collapsed), little discussion of the fact that Hitler was a crazy boob who got insanely lucky thanks much more to circumstance than to his own brilliance several times which allowed his party to essentially be disorganized and unclear in its messaging but have an appeal anyways because of how insane the alternatives were to the average impoverished german
It's basically breezed over in a blurb so they can waste more time talking about specific dates and specific battles and other shit that doesn't matter unless you're a military strategy hobbyist
Nothing at all that touches on books like this simple thing, which makes so clear how a lot of what happened to bring about the Nazis was a perfect storm of easily-preventable occurrences if people hadn't been a bunch of fucking morons
