It's basically breezed over in a blurb so they can waste more time talking about specific dates and specific battles and other shit that doesn't matter unless you're a military strategy hobbyist

Nothing at all that touches on books like this simple thing, which makes so clear how a lot of what happened to bring about the Nazis was a perfect storm of easily-preventable occurrences if people hadn't been a bunch of fucking morons

Might be giving teachers too much credit but iirc the way it was taught in school in my area, a red area, was that the great depression fed into German resentment over the Versailles Treaty, Hitler capitalized on this along with his charisma to convince the people that the Jews were to blame. Obviously this is a vast simplification of a ton of events and excludes a lot of other influences but I don't recall any history course I ever took when I was in high school or college caring to really go beyond broad brush strokes. We were taught it was the culmination of unfinished business from the last several decades of war, empire and unrest and that really, the issues that sparked WW1 never truly were resolved.

What’s that really brilliant footage based documentary series on how the imperial/WW1 stuff lead to the war called? Really dry british narrator, fantastic series
