Aside from the tampering with/erasing history answers you've already received, there's also the process of testing boundaries.

Much like a toddler will smack a parent, or throw a temper tantrum, these idiots ripping down statues are learning where the boundaries are. Much like an actual two year-old, they will push and push and push, upping their antics and observing when mommy and daddy are finally going to step in and make it stop. Every time these assholes knock over a statue and don't get punished for it, they now start to wonder what else they can do- hence, the escalation from "oh, we're just attacking Confederate statues" to "let's rip down George Washington". There were no consequences for the Confederate statues, so they said "Hey, maybe we can get away with Washington!"

It's why it's so important that there be consequences to destructive or dysfunctional behavior- for children and adults (who act like fucking children). If there aren't, the behavior will not only repeat, but also probably get worse.

They're just going to keep going until someone draws a line and says "Okay, that's enough."

It's always best to nip a tantrum in the beginning with a toddler. That way they know that behavior is unacceptable and if it continues or escalates they will be reprimanded harshly. Or at least that's how I've always dealt with toddlers.

If one wanted someone else to end up on a watchlist, one would get the subject's dox, get the time and date of the offending wire (internet) communication, ensure there is a nexus to a Federal statute, and make an anonymous report on fbi.gov. (They will try to solicit your identifying information, but you can decline every field.) There are Federal laws against rioting, supporting riots, providing material support to terrorists, and threats against the President and VP. That's just a sample, Antifa/BLM are probably breaking other Federal laws. The Feds are also interested in anyone who advocates overthrowing the government by force, which most of them will at one point or another. Overt acts are always better than idle talk, though, so look for those.

Don't post the dox on the internet, because idiots will harass the person and scare them away from social media. You don't need screenshots or archives, because the Feds can get all that through normal means, but you might as well get them anyway. Redact identifying information if you post them here.

The FBI may or may not open a criminal investigation, but they'll still open a file on the subject. If they don't interview the subject or send them a target letter, the subject will never know this file exists. If the subject made a threat against a protected person or managed to get flagged for terrorism, they'll be indexed in an NCIC file and every cop will see it for the rest of their lives. If they so much as get pulled over for an improper lane change in 2025, the cop will know they provided material support to terrorists, or threatened the President. They'll also have problems getting government employment, a security clearance, a Trusted Traveler card, or a hazmat endorsement. A lot of young people don't think about this, but a few years from now their employer might tell them, "Hey, we got this contract to do the queer BIPOC training for Fish and Wildlife Services, fill out this background form," then they're unemployed.

To condemn centuries later the effort as an evil one. Breaking our customs. And after the statue was torn down, they wrapped it in an American flag set the flag on fire and threw the burning flag and statue into a lake. Breaking our principle as a united country by using the union flag itself as an instrument of illicit destruction.

This action was done deliberately. And with absolute malice. At every turn and with every symbol the people who did it wanted to make absolutely clear they were not just engaging in petty vandalism. They were making an overt and violent proclamation. And the political leadership let them do it. The people of the city sat back and let them do it. And by either silence or support condoned the message that was sent.

I am not being a "doomer". To be a doomer is to unnecessarily pessimistic about an uncertain future. I am pointing out what is happening NOW.

Maybe I'm being a bloomer like usual, but this type of insanity is the kind of action that causes the equal and opposite reaction, and I'm not talking about "muh boogaloo" either.
