The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Spent several hours reading the entire thread through the highlights and I didn't see Metal Gear Rising being mentioned when discussing the whole concept where your enemies have loved ones/humans are sad when you kill their dogs/etc. This game did it before it was "groundbreaking" and did it infinitely better than TLOU2. Couldn't find the individual cutscene and but here it is timestamped:

I've come into possession of a copy and have been playing through it. I turned on certain accessibility options so I can sneak a bit and pop everyone in the face or shotgun people's arms legs off. I play MGS games trying to be as non lethal as possible for the challenge but since this honestly hasn't really earned the right to challenge me by being so boring I just play it like a genocidal Punished Snake run where his horn by now has reached the Space Needle in terms of size. Recently when chasing after the character Nora I had her in my sights and I wasn't allowed to shoot her despite her trying to kill me and the fact that I smash her face in with a pipe later in the scene. The enemies referring to the person I just removed the face of with a shot to the face doesn't make me feel guilty and the game wouldn't let me shoot the Vita after murdering the 800th identical Asian woman.

Welcome to first party Sony dev "design" in a nutshell. You get two flavors of shit, either a shitty ND-esque game or a Ubisoft game in another skin (Horizon, Days Gone, GoT). At least the Ubishit clones tend to have some redeeming qualities and give the player a smidgen of agency.

Chalk up another point for Death Stranding, making the player responsible for disposing of the corpses he makes is the best commentary on the human cost of violent conflict in a game to date.

Gamexplain was founded by a leftist, what did you expect? Naturally they were gonna suck sony's cock dry.

Except the harshest, most negative reviews have all come from pesky leftists. Vice, Polygon, Kotaku, Waypoint, etc. Skill Up, who had the first negative review on YouTube, is a supporter of BLM and hates Trump. Angry Joe seems to hate the game, and he's a pretty big lefty as well.

The derangement that this game has stirred in people is fascinating. It's like autists can't fathom someone liking or disliking it unless there's an insidious political agenda at hand.

That's because Days Gone was made to be a game first instead of agenda pushing trash. Better hope Sony don't give it a sequel.

The game doesn't really push any agendas other than the usual lgbt/racial representation shtick, and I think you'd be hard pressed to find any major game that *doesn't* do that these days.

Days Gone is shit. It's just that people had fairly low expectations for it, so it hasn't really been scrutinized much. If it had been published by Ubisoft, it would've gotten way worse reviews,.

Aside from maybe Horizon Zero Dawn, I think most Sony first party exclusives are pretty weak games that hide their flaws behind insanely high production values.

Is the game banned in Russia? I read that they had laws around content that promotes homosexuality. I know it got banned in the Middle East.

I'm surprised they didn't just release a copy of the game that removed the gay stuff and and sex scenes so they could sell it in more conservative regions. That's what CDPR and Rockstar did to get Witcher 3 and RDR2 through the censors in Saudi Arabia.

Shit edit on the off-chance that nobody else did it.

Man this entire thing tires me out to the point where i can't even explain why elly being gay does not add to the drama but actualy subtracts from it.
The jew girl is not even pregnant from her, so the child dying does not add extra impact, and if she could have kids but her oriantation made her choice not to cuts off the people a chance for natural immunity.

No, instead people just reply "if it was a dude there was no problem for you"

Sony cares more about pushing agendas than making money. If their cared about making money this game would have been aborted.

If this were true, they would have forced the hand of From Software and other developers.

You're making up shit.

The game would have been put back into development if the leak didn't happen, that's why they refunded the digital pre-order money. The leak forced them to release it.

They announced the release date before the leak even happened. What are you even talking about? Does Jim Ryans cock taste like Fish & Chips? Shuhei Yohidas like Takoyaki?

After taking a long hike through the release hype...I don't really have anything much to add. Except, really, that I think a game can be in a sense artistic. It can be a window to another world, and that world can be anything you want it to be. What's happened over the past few years is that we have also opened a window to the soul of liberal/SJW types, who were blackpilled by Trump's election and have proceeded to shit on anything percieved as good (or at least associated with white males) afterwards with renewed venom. My theory on their state of mind is that if they're not happy, we can't be happy either. TLOU2 took 7 years to make; I wonder if anything changed during the production after fall of 2016. Wouldn't be surprised one bit if Neil jumped off the deep end at that point.

That being said, if you're looking for a game that I personally consider to be art, I humbly recommend Hylics 2. It's the kind of sequel where there's more of everything there was in the first game and it's better, and probably has some of the most unique animation in gaming today (being, basically, a combination of claymation and filters). Is it surrealistic and weird? Sure. But it's also creative and unique in its presentation, and is the work of 1 guy - who in my opinion deserves the money for the work he'ss done.

It comes out in 2 days and I couldn't be more excited! Hopefully some people might get this instead of TLOU2.

I can't believe we're down this path again, but we may as well address it while we're in the hole.

Games can be art. This was proven decades ago. Ask anyone who played a competently-made game that pushed boundaries or tried new things for love of the craft, be it one of those games that could get even the coolest, most manly of dudes to go: "You know what? That's damned pretty." like Nights Into Dreams, or the early Rayman games, a game that pushed boldly into new ideas, told a story in an entertaining or novel way, or even hacked the ever-loving shit out of an existing game engine to push it as hard as it could to its limits:

Love of the craft shines through, no matter the format. The question is whether or not games must be art, and the answer to that is "fuck no." The reason that "art games" are being pushed like they're some kind of emergent storytelling device that's never been seen before (while making one pine for the dulcet tones of David Cage) is because they're fundamentally untalented and are doing the video game equivalent of modern art: zero effort experimentation with form designed to be intellectually masturbated over as the people responsible try to claim you're too stupid to get it.

They don't make these games for others, they make them for themselves. Nothing shows this like the unmitigated hilarity of the Sunset debacle.

The leak hapened before the 24 hour time frame the date was changed from TBA to 06/19/20
They had to release it fecause the leak forced them too.
