Why is it that lesbian ships are always portrayed as "pure" and have a bigger presence in the ideology circle jerk than gay ships? I really don't get it when these are the same people who slobber all over basic ass ships and don't see the irony in treating men as sex objects.

Because penis is evil, even gay penis. That and looking at most lesbian anime/Japanese stuff/western animation (which a lot of these fans probably watch/idolise), it is generally depicted in a softer more romantic tone than a lot of the gay male equivalents.

Yuri stuff usually involves sweetness, flowers and other similar imagery, and the relationship (unless its a very tragic drama) is pretty pure, rarely involving super hardcore sexual themes. Now enter the male equivalents, which can and do have similar covers/stories, but generally they start to border more hardcore themes, bestial imagery and so on. Using two pure women to spread ideology will always look more pleasing to them then using 2 men who can be seen as more aggressive/negative (in their minds).
