The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

That makes no sense. If the game leaked and that leak showed it sucked, wouldn't it be better to disavow it, say it was an in progress build, and then rework it? I think any belief that they were going to radically rework a game that has been in development for years and sucked up millions of dollars is delusional. I can remember only a few cases, if that, where that ever happened.
Honestly it could have been a combination of delaying until multiplayer would be available + recutting the game using the existing scenes in maybe a different order and adding/removing some scenes for a better tone and characterization.

I.e. like in RDRII, where a ton of scenes and scenarios were left on the cutting room floor because they affected the flow of the game.

In the case of TLoUII, many have noted that Abby’s chapters could have come first, with Joel’s death arriving later. Heck, in this thread alone there’s been plenty of spectulations as to how the story could have been improved with minor tweaks.

I can't tell if you are joking or not. Did someone really make that prediction?
I think he's saying the plot reads like an absurd parody that /pol/ could have made. When you step back and look at this whole steaming shit of a game the plot really does seem to follow a /pol/ shitpost. It's fucking unreal.

It is a technological marvel, yet I can't help but still be jaded about it. It's like the internet nice guy asking for a girlfriend for doing what everyone else should be doing.

Good job, you're a pretty game. You're also an accessible game. Yet, you're also stubbornly giving me shit sandwiches throughout the entire playthrough.

Yeah, that's probably the most frustrating thing about the game. There was clearly an insane amount of talent and effort involved, and they probably could've easily made a game that was as well received as the original (the flashbacks to young Ellie and Joel make that very obvious), but the writers tried too hard to 'subvert the audience's expectations.'

Side note, but is it just me, or does Abby get less swole as the game goes on? When she kills Joel, she's basically a behemoth, but by the end of the game she seems like she's lost a lot of muscle mass. I don't know if they used a different body model or what, but she' looks a lot smaller.

Watching some gameplay of this game. I wanna ask did they just put Guy Fieri in this game.

Ah crossed. Now theres some fucked up I have not heard about in some time. If I remember correctly the crossed use guns with bullets covered in their jizz to infect people. Also if I remember correctly it had an issue where one of the main characters kills a bunch of children in a tunnel either to spare them from being raped into murder zombies or because they did not want them to give away their position to where they would be raped into murder zombies. Also on the subject of crossed, it has some of my favorite comic covers ever.

Blimey, I almost forgot about Shockfest: The Comic. There is a funny thing about it, one of the arcs of Badlands subseries covered the SJW shenanigans by presenting a story about a comic writer who got her work rejected by "bigots" (comic producers who didn't like her bullshite feminist comics) and then locked up and raped by anti-SJW comic book store guys, until she gets saved by a gay couple. Shite's so fucking stupid that I can't tell whether it's a satire or someone decided to push their SJW views, but since it was written by Max Bemis, I bet on the latter.

Does anyone know the ales figures/ STEAM numbers? I get the feeling that this game's going to make a profit, and what's worse is this will continue to drive AAA studios to make shit games that are even wokerer than before.

Why is Ellie and Dina's voice so similar? Their personalities rarely show through their voice so most of the time it sounds like Ellie is talking to her self.

They sounded so similar if you told me they were the same actress I'd believe you. I couldn't help but think of Lunch lady Doris from The Simpsons.

"I get two paychecks this way!"

To summarize, TLOU2 is just this comic...

...and a gay porn scene performed by two straight bodybuilders who were told Neill Druckmann will kill their mothers if they don't fuck.

My doggie went missing last week. So there is no way I could get past this scene.

In Parasite Even at least the police dog the little boy used to play with was already a mutant mitochondria zombie. And the dogs in Resident Evil had been undead for quite awhile before you got on the scene. Although in RE2 it was sad seeing the names on the kennels.

People don't want to kill man's best friend. And with graphics getting more realistic it's not like you just fired a pixel at a clump of vaguely dog-like pixels.

Rather than subvert expectations to "ow the edge" out of players, Druckman should have presented the player with a series of moral choices that affect the story and have at least two endings to reflect them. That way players could experiment with morality, which would be a lot more enlightening than "Revenge=bad unless you are MA'AM."

With all the time spent in development they could have done a lot to get the player thinking about the point of the story and they could have developed Abby enough to actually make people think of her as more than a serial killing ragebeest.

Instead we get a fanfic that sounds like it was written by an edgy teen who really hates some kids at school named Ellie and Joel.

Spent several hours reading the entire thread through the highlights and I didn't see Metal Gear Rising being mentioned when discussing the whole concept where your enemies have loved ones/humans are sad when you kill their dogs/etc. This game did it before it was "groundbreaking" and did it infinitely better than TLOU2. Couldn't find the individual cutscene and but here it is timestamped:
There's something else here that I think is worth mentioning as to why this scene in MGR works better.

Throughout the game, Raiden tries to justify his violent actions by proclaiming that he's doing it for justice. He tries to operate off a black and white worldview that the people he's hacking to bits "knew what they were signing up for" and that they were adults who made the wrong choice. Sam forcing Raiden to listen to his enemies' thoughts exposes the holes in Raiden's philosophy, showing that not everything is black and white. His enemies are just as human as he is, which is why Raiden has a breakdown when he can no longer deny that he's killing other people for both his own satisfaction and because they're just on opposite sides.

MGR introduces the protagonist's personal philosophy and then proceeds to show the flaws in that worldview, which is ballsy if nothing else. Even at the end of the game, Raiden's still coming to grips with it, especially when Armstrong points out that he and Raiden aren't so different after all. That being said, it works better from a narrative perspective because, even when I played it I always thought that having the enemies panicking and crying as you're forced to kill them was cheap from the player's perspective. It's brilliant for Raiden to go through with it, not so much the player.

TLOU 2 meanwhile puts more of the impetus on the player and forces them to do way worse shit than Raiden had to and has the gall to scream at them for committing violence. At least in MGR you can argue that the breakdown scene adds a layer of nuance to Raiden's actions. TLOU 2 lacks any sort of complexity beyond violence being bad and if anything it's confused because some characters clearly benefit more from violence than others.

You know what I would do for a The Last of Us Part 2? I'd make it a mixture of TLoU and Death Stranding.

You play as a marginally educated doctor of the US army, who because of lack of personel has to routinely go with soldiers to support them, while the better docs stay at the base.
Said base is stationed in an arid area of the USA, like Arizone or New Mexico. The game would be split in three acts, with the story as a whole being a climb out of the bottom of the barrel that is the apocalypse.

Part one would be the establishing of the new base, with the various characters being introduced and play-mechanics being shown. You travel between areas, scout places, contact towns similiar to Tommy's and convince them to rejoin the USA again, and contribute to creating functional roads between these areas.

Part two is where the story starts to roll, with new orders coming from the top brass (what is left of it) to collect people who demonstrated immunity to the cordycepts. The remaining fireflies spilled the beans of people like Ellie. Obviously the army wants to research that immunity and make it common. However, surviving holdouts of the Fireflies are now actively hunting immunes and murdering them to deny the military them out of spite. Complicating things are a cult that believes consuming immunes makes them immune in return, and Abbey being a serial killer of Joels.

Part three is the protag finding Joel and Ellie, or rather finding Tommy's village. You do favors for the villagers, you pitch your usual speech about how the people were once a part of a greater thing, you pass along advices and warnings from the millitary, and after a while Ellie comes forward to try and get more info about this whole "Would any immunes please help us defeat the cordicepts?" business. Eventually Joel and Ellie are convinced to come with you. That's where the gameplay makes a return to the first game, with three areas being dedicated to traveling back to civilization. That would be demonstrated by the first level being overgrown wilderness, the second one being gradually becoming more civilized, and the final being essentially a convoy on a functional street where you and Joel defend their transport against a bunch of desperate Fireflies.

The story ends with Joel and Ellie returning home after she donated some of her spinal fluid or something else, I'm a bit fuzzy on the details here, and they are greeted by Tommy asking how their journey was.

EDIT: So what do you all think?

The irony is, even the woke hated "representation" in this game.

At least Nier's Kaine was a bad bitch with a dick. In this game we have a little girl with no personality running away from a TERF cult because she was about to be sold as a child bride and an "androgynous" marysue terminator who's already became the most despised character in gaming history and only be remembered for the memes.
Stunning

Ok, since the sex scene is probably using in-game models and not pre-rendered....
does anyone know if the vagina and the penis is modeled?? Asking for a friend.... 🤣

Earlier in the thread someone had mentioned maybe when the models get ripped. But do nude models used in sex scenes have anything going on below the waist?

Nigger dont make me start ranting about that horseshit series again.

Seriously, even now after the entire comics industy has passed the woketard event horizon and is loudly shitting itself to death, I have yet to see anything that offends my delicate sensibilities of "dont neglect basic fucking storytelling and worldbuilding in favour of cringy posturing" and "dont waste promising concepts with absolute garbage writing" quite as much as Crossed
Offtopic
Crossed was my nail in the coffin for Ennis. Really liked punisher max series, but this series after the shock-value has lost every edge that was after 3 issues (lololol a guy named horsecock). Wasn't the worst though that was Nemesis by the dumbfuck Ellis.

Can we have a quick word about the whole "but the graphics and animation are so good and pretty" point here.

To be honest, maybe I just don't know what I'm looking for, but I'm not impressed by the bracelets sliding down wrists or the facial animation (which is about on par with Hellblade from 2017, but I don't know how much of that was down to the actual animation and how much due to Melinda Juergens' bang-up acting job) or the snow falling off branches. In fact, the nice bits of animation like that and "attention to detail" actually makes it worse. Imagine if all the time they'd spent working their staff to the bone animating snow falling off branches or Joel's brains smearing properly on Abby's golf club was instead spent on inserting meaningful character interactions and development, multiple ways of completing objectives (this sort of game is absolutely ripe for a Combat / Diplomacy / Stealth skill tree). It might have been a game rather than an interactive misery memoir with added zombie blasting and bite the pillow, I'm going in dry.

Not the first time that Laura Bailey voiced a tranny.

And honestly, how the fuck is it that people being trans is so fucking important in a survival game, there are more important things to do than to worry about one's damn gender identity but I digress given that this is fiction.

A story in two parts:

A gaming channel I've been watching as of late, Bellular news, has been covering TLOU2 before, during and after the leaks; Even before the leaks he was covering the crunch time allegations at Naughty Dog. This channel tends to follow an extremely middle of the road approach to news coverage, giving deference to both developers and customers. Bellular predictably released a video covering the massive influx of negative reviews on the 19th. He recognized that a portion of the reviews were probably chan trolls review bombing it for the memes, but also acknowledged that a significant number of the reviews were likely legitimately unhappy customers. He then pledged to play the game for himself so he could give his personal opinion, stating he would likely wait until after all the initial buzz had worn off, giving a time frame of at least a week or two.

Fast forward barely 48 hours, he releases his review. He completely trashes it.
