The story flopped, but on a technical level, it definitely seems to be a landmark. I've seen a lot of devs on twitter gushing over stuff like the animations, physics interactions, and lighting.

not really, it usually just isn't done because it takes more work to implement if it's animated by hand and physics calculations are heavy so kinda restrictive for consoles. the cost/benefit isn't there most of the time.

I think I know the reason for the delay. TLOU1 had multiplayer, and actually a pretty damn good multiplayer mode. I won't go into the detail why, but I can if people wish.

In the leaks there was actually footage of multiplayer in development. I am quite certain Cuckmann did not want multiplayer because that is fun, and TLOU2 is not allowed to be fun. However some Sony exec somewhere noted that every ND release since UC2 had multiplayer, and that multiplayer is a great retention and income tool for a game. So they forced him to start developing one. It is not ready for release day, and is still under work, I believe that the original intention was to release the exact same game + multiplayer included.

On the subject of subverting zombie apocalypse, someone should just man up and write a story after the apocalypse. Whatever, zombies munched 90% of the population somehow, civilization fell. And then people gathered together and adapted and outlived the zombies, and the random survivors of the world have to start up their civilizations again with whatever patchwork knowledge they have or can glean from the remnants. Possibly without any idea how the zombies happened, where they came from, or any guarantee that they won't come back some day or somehow if they do the wrong thing or enough time passes. Then you can have your post-apocalypse drama and civilization building anarchy porn and not have to force in the zombies and shock kills.

would be too boring for most. sure, you could do a post-apoc harvest moon, but why make it post apoc if you can get more people into with the usual fluffy setting? might as well do a post-apoc soap opera.
if you have an external threat, raiders would just replace zombies, which could lead to interesting drama simply because it's someone you can communicate with and has a deeper motive than just "eat brains", but do you really wanna see what current year + 5 writers make out of that?

Seeing as you playing as a different character barely even changes the actual mechanics of the game, yes that's plot shit. Again, if the whole story is the problem, why would they delay it again only to not change the plot instead of meeting the original release date they already announced so they could mine the vein while it was still a somewhat hidden secret. Because it was an actual playable build that leaked. It was more than likely decided that they spent enough money developing it and that they needed some kind of return on it at that point and that any long term delays would hurt the bottom line. The leaks kinda forced a point of no return.

That's why they moved another one of their big releases up to July to cover for any shortcomings in sales from TLOU2. I mean you normally don;t have one big release follow another in the month after. Normally that's a form of cannibalization. Idealy you want to give at least a two month break so the sales have some breathing room.

That makes no sense. If the game leaked and that leak showed it sucked, wouldn't it be better to disavow it, say it was an in progress build, and then rework it? I think any belief that they were going to radically rework a game that has been in development for years and sucked up millions of dollars is delusional. I can remember only a few cases, if that, where that ever happened.

Their limiting factor is their impulsiveness - they can't help obeying the impulse to pleasure, and they don't think long term for the most part.

Ah crossed. Now theres some fucked up I have not heard about in some time. If I remember correctly the crossed use guns with bullets covered in their jizz to infect people. Also if I remember correctly it had an issue where one of the main characters kills a bunch of children in a tunnel either to spare them from being raped into murder zombies or because they did not want them to give away their position to where they would be raped into murder zombies.
