I'll admit, a lot of this political apathy in my country can be traced back to colonialism. Not in the way that most would think tho. Because in my country, our versions of Washington and Jefferson didn't win, they were betrayed by their own to appease the colonizers. Shot like dogs cause they didn't want to surrender.
My country was built on the ideals of cowardice and appeasement of higher powers. Ask any Filipino you know if they're proud of their country, and I guarantee most will say no and whoever says yes is a fucking liar or is delusional. That's why we all cling so hard to Manny Pacquiao, why if anything Filipino is mentioned in popular culture we get excited, cause as a country we have nothing to take pride in.
That's why it infuriates me to see you Americans bow down to these people and let them do what they want. Cause that's one step closer to having a population like mine, where no one really gives a shit about poverty, corruption, or people being murdered by the government. We think as long as it doesn't affect your income and you still have a roof over your head, it isn't your problem.
