* Sylvie is wandering through the forest one afternoon, minding her own business, and staring at all the bugs, assigning them all with what a child would consider a rich inner life (Fake names, hobbies, etc.)
* She returns home late in the evening to the small but cozy house she shares with her mother. She is the only one there, so she goes to her room, passing photos of a younger her, her mother and her late father.
* Her room is filled with janky characters/creations she made herself, prominent among them Woggles himself, who acts as an imaginary confidant/security blanket to her. The 50-foot firebreathing Woggles is shown as a drawing on the wall.
* Soon after, her Mother, an entomologist, returns home for a frozen chicken/vegetable dinner. She loves Sylvie, but the stresses of both her job and raising her by herself can't help but cause some friction between them.
* The next day we see school for Sylvie. She gets good marks when it comes to art class, but is distracted when it comes to other courses, frequently looking out the window.
* She tries to act like Woggles via wit and terrible puns. This only serves to make her virtually invisible at best and dubbed "Weird girl" at worst.
* During the car ride home with her Mother, she asks her questions about life as a bug, what people like her do them, etc. The Mother tries to give simple answers, but they only unsettle Sylvie.
* Later that evening, The Mother is getting ready for a date, and orders a pizza for Sylvie. The latter is disappointed by the new relationship, and expresses how it'll "make her tired by the end" and wishes that her Dad would come back. It's obviously still a sore spot for The Mother, who brushes her off.
* The Boyfriend, a medical doctor, comes over. Sylvie greets him as Woggles, complete with a top hat she made out of twigs and leaves. The Boyfriend is amused and benignly condescending, which rubs Sylvie the wrong way.
* Later that night as The Mother and The Boyfriend start to unwind, Sylvie peeks on through the end of the hallway. The Boyfriend notices and asks if everything's okay.
* Sylvie marches out doing her Woggles routine, calling The Mother "The Queen", who sent him out to find "The King", who's been kidnapped by "the evil Antibo" (The Boyfriend). Initially playing along, The Boyfriend is given pause once she explains Antibo.
* The Mother tries to salvage the night by bringing Sylvie to her room. Furious, she tries to get Sylvie to stay in her room, but she won't drop the Woggles routine, eventually insulting her and implying that she let The King be "kidnapped".
* The Mother starts yelling at her, causing Sylvie to shove her and run out toward the forest. The Boyfriend tries to stop her at the back door, but she bites his leg and runs into the woods, tears streaming down her cheeks.
* After running for an indeterminate amount of time. Sylvie sits down, thoroughly exhausted and lost in the woods as the sun rises. She hears a voice behind her, turning around to see...
* Woggles himself, in all of his disquieting glory!
* Woggles explains his backstory to Sylvie, and how despite his many accomplishments, he still feels like something of an outcast, telling Sylvie of his intention to become The King and Queen's royal servant.
* When they get to the castle, The Queen is in despair. She explains that The King has been kidnapped by Antibo, who drains the life from others in order to continue his reign of terror, and she fears that The King may meet his end.
* The Queen states that the journey is treacherous, but this does not faze Woggles or Sylvie, who accept the challenge and venture forth to save The King.
* They meet up with the elves and the fairy queen and Loink, the ill-tempered elf joins them.
* This is followed by them picking up the pixie Grismelda and the sasquatch Romily.
* They go through character development, running through trials such as The Bog of Lies, meant to sow confusion and doubt in our heroes. The Red Land where the anger is ratcheted among those who pass, and results in the death of Grismelda and the disappearance of Romily and the Trader's Market of Ny-Gee-Rya, with the sellers tempting them with magic beans and useless swords in exchange for one of their own.
* They make it to The Despairing Kiwi Forest, where they attempt to persevere despite the overwhelming emotions threatening to consume them. Loink is overcome and refuses to leave the forest despite making it to the exit, choosing to spend the remainder of his days wallowing in the forest.
* Thoroughly shaken they walk through until Woggles spontaneously breaks down crying. After some prodding from Sylvie, he explains that he's a coward and a liar, and that he was a freak of nature instead of an intelligent creation of Professor Nowitall.
* Sylvie comforts him by saying that it's not your circumstances that define you, but how you react to them. She also states that we're all bugs just trying to survive and make their way through life.
* Emboldened, they continue to Antibo's castle only to find...
* The King, dead. Antibo has absorbed his life energy and is threatening to overtake the kingdom.
* After some magical shenanigans, Antibo is sealed, albeit temporarily.
* While walking her through the forest that night, Woggles is apprehensive about saying goodbye to Sylvie, but she's accepting of it, saying that everything ends eventually. Woggles offers a rebuttal before being cut off. Sylvie turns around...
* And he's gone. She faces forward to find herself looking at her backyard and walks back in. It's only been about an hour since she ran out.
* Sheepishly walking in, she finds her mother, crying and worried sick. The latter looks up and hugs her tightly.
* Sylvie takes a bath, eats a slice of cake in the kitchen with her mother and is tucked into bed. They look at each other, a thousand different emotions running through their minds as they offer each other supportive looks.
* The End.
