After looking into it, I am not quite sure. His history with the subject is rocky to say the least. He seems more for gun bans now publicly due to Democrats demanding it. Otherwise he has historically had multiple instances of going against.Bernie is equally for gun control I mean he co-sponsored ERPOA and introduced the Background Check Expansion Act. He's been busy lately trying to get illegals eligibility for government loans. As for Obamacare well part of Bernie's platform was providing free transition surgery including top surgery and HRT so I don't know how that is less extreme than Obamacare. Let's also not forget Bernie has been a major proponent of the Green New Deal whereas Biden only came around to it recently which was in all honesty prob an attempt to scoop up bernie voters. Bernie's neatest trick is being intentionally vague on his policies that are crazy and hyping his most likeable ones. If you think he is closer to the centre than Biden you're nuts.
For the next few years, Sanders treaded somewhat carefully on guns. That’s reflected by his NRA score over the past three decades, which has reached as high as a C-minus — not pro-gun, but more pro-gun than would be expected of a progressive.
In 1993, Sanders fulfilled a campaign promise and voted against the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, which effectively set up background checks at the federal level. He said he opposed the measure because it imposed a five-day waiting period for background checks — at least until the federal government, years later, could develop an instant background check system that can take up to three days if the initial check is inconclusive.
Then in 2003 and 2005, Sanders voted for a bill that effectively shields gun companies from lawsuits. These votes became particularly contentious in 2016, because Hillary Clinton voted against the bill when she was in the Senate and cited her vote to draw a contrast to Sanders during the 2016 primaries. The bill became law in 2005.

He seems a little all over the place, but more an advocate nowadays. Even then I question his allegiance as he went on Joe Rogan and talked about very minimal policies and restrictions. If I remember correctly it was just getting rid of military grade weapons. He never spoke about checks or anything else, instead pivoting to mental health being a bigger issue. Otherwise he was reassuring 2nd amendment rights.
Take this how you will, but I think there is more there that says he leans more right than Biden.
As for climate, he seems more industry building than the usual put a cap on things. To me that is better than the plain restrictions set up by Dems. At least we can get ahead of fossil fuels being used up (even if it is a few lifetimes away).
Here is a key point from his website:
Even still I can see where some may be apprehensive. It was not a good point on my part, so my bad.
- Transform our energy system to 100 percent renewable energy and create 20 million jobs needed to solve the climate crisis.
- Ensure a just transition for communities and workers, including fossil fuel workers.
I do not know how to end this. He is a bit more out there, so saying he is lesser than Biden was wrong, but at the same time, it is strange how he seems to captivate many Trump voters if he is not. Maybe they just like crazy big plans, cannot say I disagree with doing some more out there things in an attempt to improve America. Overall politics in 2020 just seem odd, so thank you for adding more information.
