The Ghostbusters Thread (Old, New, Animated, Whatever)

The evolution of Ghostbusters in our culture is a perfect example of just how fucking toxic the SJW mentality is.

Ghostbusters went from a ubiquitously loved element of pop culture that people shared into something with political baggage and a vicious divide.

Of course Ghostbusters isn't even the biggest or worst example of that, they did the same exact thing to Star Wars, but Star Wars while an even bigger cultural juggernaut already had a division with the Prequels versus the OT (though it should be noted that wasn't a political battle at least), there's something particularly egregious to me about that being done to Ghostbusters considering how unanimously loved that original movie was prior to 2016.

Not that Lucas himself didn't try. Remember, the entire point of the political aspect of the prequels was to condemn and vilify Dubya over the Iraq war and his response to 9/11. He even named a character after Newt Gingrich (Nute Gunray).

Hollywood entertainers using their platforms to make a difference and socially signal over partisan politics is not a new thing at all. The difference is they've become outright belligerent about it.

The way he says that just sounds so wrong

Instantly downvoted that, don't even care what his reasoning is.

Also wanted to add that his voice has become incessantly nasally over the years, & I'm certain he's doing it on purpose. He's like the white Steve Urkel without any charisma. And I've seen the extended cut, it's just as garbage as the theatrical cut but more annoying simply because is more of the same problem, comedians trying to one-up each other in two hours of wholly improvised dialog, and I'm betting Paul Feig kept only the most awkward and painful bits that he could find on the cutting floor. It shouldn't surprise me that Leon is defending the movie since he and Paul Feig are like genetic clones.

Friendly reminder that Leon Thomas used to make edgy vidya rants before he became a complete milquetoast SJW ally.

Watching the review and I can already tell by the 3:10 mark that he made this review solely to rile up a reaction, his praises for the movie are so empty, childish, generic, pandering and blasé that it can't be for any other reason. This reach-around for Paul Feig is so soft-handed it almost strikes me as Leon going senile. He's trying to get rage-clicks, only problem is he's a fucking millennium too late to get it, nobody cares about Fembusters anymore. If that's what he wanted, he should've charged out at the gate back in 2016.

I'm gonna be real here and just throw out the core reason why Fembusters was such a bomb. No elaborate Plinkett-esque essay or Mauler-tier point-by-point deconstruction, what Fembusters ultimately boils down to is this:

One of the few decent points that doug walker that Doug Walker made is that bad comedies are a chore to critique since theres only so many times you can say this isnt funny before it gets repetitive

I remember this guy getting super pissy at RedLetterMedia for having the audacity to give the film a negative review.

I used to see his videos get pushed on Channel Awesome all the time and I always avoided them because they looked like pretentious twaddle. Glad to see I was correct in that assessment and didn’t waste my time.

Leon, unless it’s followed by S. Kennedy, is the dorkiest name on the planet.

Still watching it and his excuse making at every criticism the film has received basically boils down to near dismissal out of hand. It's almost a strawman to even bring up the cast being all women & then dismiss it, having an all women cast was done as a plausible deniability move to excuse the movie's poor reception and box office draw by claiming all the people not paying to see it were merely sexist. It is up and down a completely cynical film filled to the brim with safeguards against legitimate criticism because they knew they were making a weak, sickly production that needed a crutch made from a sexism scandal to stand up.

It was a combination of: a bad script, a "director" who just let their actors do whatever, and bad casting. Epically bad casting.

Now he's going on and on about how the target audience were actually small children, a movie with ironically childishly crude toilet humor that spawned the infamous quote "It went everywhere, in every crack" aimed at adults, much like the 80's film with the famous "This man has no dick" quote. Then he very ironically criticizes the 80's for being cynical, while feigning an earnest defense of a cynical cash grab.

This review is oozing with soy and is as such by design. Great b8, Leon.

This review in a nutshell:

Here's why I can't get on the same wavelength of the SJW patrol.

They claim to want representation and equality. Fair enough, BUT they don't want that media to be held to the same standard as everything else.

Adam Sandler, Michael Bay, and Zack Snyder's work gets bashed ALL THE TIME and there are no cries of any kind of sexism or bigotry. Its just commentary on subpar work.

But we make those same comments on the poor quality of an all female led film, and that's sexist? Please explain assholes!
