A clash of kings had this really bad because it's all politics, people having backroom meetings and behind the scenes deals. Having those conversations happen over meals kept them dynamic and gave Martin something to describe that broke up the conversation. It's literal flavortext. It's also really fucking annoying when you realize the book would be half length without them and probably just as interesting. he stopped doing it in Storm of Swords and then started to even describe bad foods later on, but figures a lot of wannabe authors didn't pick up on that part when they aped his style. also

Yup, GamerGate is to blame for Chucky's twitter being locked.
If anyone cares, I discuss the authors getting #MeToo'd here and here, probably at more length than is merited, definitely in the case of Paul Krueger. The author getting #MeToo'd Chucky is NOT unpersoning, at least not yet, Mark Lawrence, is hugely popular. The other three are basically nobodies, though Sam Sykes' mother is bestselling author Diana Gabaldon, but I guess Chucky knows which bridges not to burn yet.

My Twitter account remains locked due to GG-style harassment of me (death threats, doxxing, harassing my followers and repliers) tied to the Internet Archive situation, but those who don’t follow me wouldn’t have seen my recent statements, so I thought it best to put something here, too.
Recently it has come to light that a handful of authors inside science-fiction and fantasy publishing have engaged in various acts of harassment and abuse against women. These authors are authors with which I am friendly, particularly online — Paul Krueger, Myke Cole, Sam Sykes — and I am deeply sorry if that friendliness or if me boosting their work and amplifying their voices has in any way given them cover for their actions or given them unearned trust. I never saw the harassment or abuse in play, but my ignorance of it is not an excuse, and I should be better about actively attempting to make spaces like conventions and conferences safe. Some of the women who were harassed or abused are friends or acquaintances, as well, and that makes me heartsick to realize that I didn’t know or see what they were going through. It’s not enough to simply go along to get along, but rather, to maintain a vigil and to be ever on the lookout for harassment and attempt to call it in when witnessed.
I’ve cut personal and professional ties with these men and will not be signal boosting them further. I’m listening to victims and believe them. The men have apologized but it’s not on me to accept, deny, or judge those apologies.

These accusations read like they are straight out of somebody's Tumblr headcanon, but truth and falsity don't matter when you're dealing with Social Justice. Does Chuck #BelieveWomen, or doesn't he? To reiterate, I have absolutely no idea who this person is. But she is doubtless brave and powerful and totally badass. And female and therefore incapable of lying, right Chuck?

I saw one today accusing Scott Lynch which basically amounted to I was 25-year-old minor and got involved in a consensual relationship for a month and then his wife got mad.

Frankly, their are other, more famous writers who deserve more crap for their stance on the Internet Archive and "piracy", than Chuck Wendig, nobody ever liked Wendig who was always a soy neolib corporatist beardo while you have others like Neil Gaiman who 180'd on his stance to pander to Twitter. To be 100% fair shit talking Wendig is easier because there's also the "he's a shit writer" factor, but others deserve it even more.

The gist seems to be that he likes some men that she thinks are evil, she made a mistake once and he called her on it, and she thinks she's an amazing progressive who should be trusted and powerful while also blaming her emotional state on a dickbag like Wendig. Very 'I'm an amazing human who made a minor error, you're a monster whose every action that could be even slightly misread is a sign that you're a misogynist.'
About the only accusation that has anything to it is that she tried to get him to do something about a sex pest and he said he couldn't in a professional capacity but everyone knew so women wouldn't be left alone with him. But we're at the 'my every grievance means you hate women' stage, and it's Wendig, so any negative consequences he receives will be from a mob he willingly joined.
tl;dr: even by current standards is a nothingburger even if it's true, but fuck him anyway.
