See this is why I don't believe them. If my abuser had people supporting him I would be disappointed but I wouldn't make a big deal about it.
My goal isn't appealing to the general public or even changing someone's opinion about that person. People can decide for themselves in the end.
It's personal for me. Closure is the end goal so I can close that chapter in my life and move forward.
Bringing it up time and time again is just suspicious to me. I've always tried to, y'know, avoid reliving things. And if the public fails me the responsibility falls back on me to move forward.
I see it like this. Let's say you get in a car accident regardless of fault and you've been left traumatized by it. There comes a point in time where doctors and insurance and the police can't do anything more for you. You've got a trashed car, some injuries, and PTSD symptoms related to the crash.
In this case it isn't necessarily your fault that you ended up like this but you're the one who has to decide where to go from here. It's not other people's responsibility to handle things beyond what has already been done for you.
Sometimes things in life happen that are horrible and there's nothing you can do about them in the moment. But as soon as it's over, you're responsible for yourself just as you've always been. Just because something shitty happened (in this case, it didn't obviously) you don't get to stop being a responsible adult because of it.
