Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Once again, folks, cases don't equate to hospitalizations, and hospitalizations don't equate to deaths.

Well yeah, just 10 posts back it says FL saw a "huge spike" of 9,000 cases (FL has 21 million people lol) and only 40 deaths. That's .5% mortality out of recognized, likely symptomatically serious new cases... so definitely just the flu (bro).

Word from the motherland is things aren't too bad. They did lockdowns over there too, with a little more bite than ours (lol at American "lockdowns" during which I traveled cross country, then moved and changed jobs). Anyways, I'm to understand that it was as much of a nothingburger in RU as it was here.

By this point I'm absolutely convinced the riots were a huge attempt to continue the spread and resume tanking our fucking economy. Fuck these useful idiots, every single fucking one of them. I swear if PA shuts down again because all those stupid pricks in NY couldn't just let one asshole felon's death slide, I'm done.

Has there been any straight answer as what the corona actually does and what it is? Is it a super virus that will kill everyone by ripping out their lungs? Or is it like E. coil where everyone has it and only few people are "really" dying (I'm not including car crashing or abortions). And before anyone says look at the case rates, I WANT BODIES HITTING THE FLOOR! I WANT BLOOD, I WANT PUS, I WANT DEATH NOT *uff uff* I AM SICK AND TRIED OF THESE "EXPERTS" dictating how we can live and how these stupid politicians follow suit in order to stick it to one man.

Rate me MATI but I hate how these smug "doctors" and their puppet master are not going to get what they deserve in this life.

If you don't support BlackLivesMatter it makes your dick fly off.

Well, Greggy boi in Texas here decided to make restraunts scale back to 50% and close all bars and river rafting.

And he regrets it? Way too focused on the case numbers there buddy

Also Slyvestor Turner is dogshit.

Gov. Greg Abbott on Friday expressed regret for the first known time about the reopening process he spearheaded during the coronavirus pandemic, saying he should not have allowed bars to open as quickly.

"If I could go back and redo anything, it probably would have been to slow down the opening of bars, now seeing in the aftermath of how quickly the coronavirus spread in the bar setting," Abbott said during an evening interview with KVIA in El Paso.

Abbott added that the "bar setting, in reality, just doesn't work with a pandemic," noting people "go to bars to get close and to drink and to socialize, and that's the kind of thing that stokes the spread of the coronavirus."

In a subsequent interview with WFAA in Dallas, Abbott reiterated regret over the pace of bar reopenings, calling it an "easy thing to pinpoint" as he looks back on the process.

Abbott's comments came hours after he shut down bars across the state as part of a series of moves to contain a coronavirus spike in Texas. He also scaled back restaurant capacity to 50%, shut down rafting and tubing businesses, and banned outdoor gatherings of over 100 people unless approved by local officials.

“At this time, it is clear that the rise in cases is largely driven by certain types of activities, including Texans congregating in bars," Abbott said Friday morning. "The actions in this executive order are essential to our mission to swiftly contain this virus and protect public health."

Abbott permitted bars to reopen for the first time on May 22, at 25% indoor capacity. On June 3, he allowed bars to move to 50% capacity as long as customers are seated.

But cases have climbed rapidly in recent weeks. On Thursday, Texas saw another record number of new cases — 5,996 — as well as hospitalizations — 4,739. The hospitalization number set a record for the 14th straight day. During the increase, Abbott has cited Texas' large hospital capacity and the availability of respirators. But many hospitals in Texas' big cities have reported crowded intensive care units in recent days, and some cities have begun reviving plans to treat patients at convention centers and stadiums.

Has there been any straight answer as what the corona actually does and what it is?

It's very complicated for what it was supposed to be. What it does to one person it may not do to another, but on a ridiculous gap in severity. I had pneumonia in one lung and a strange feeling in my chest. Some people's lungs fill up with a really thick mucus as a result of infection. Some developing blood clots and have strokes- and that's young people getting those. And then most people don't even know they have it, so what the fuck.

It really does go after people who pre-existing problems and it does kill. It's just so strange. I don't understand how something that can spread like the common cold can fuck someone up so badly in so many different ways. Some patients present with heart issues when they've had zero cardiac history or issues of any kind. It's that variety of signs, symptoms, and morbidities that make it so suspicious. This is why the lab-generated theory is so popular.

How can something that can do all of that even exist. We didn't see people drop dead in the states like they were in those videos that we saw from Wuhan. Was it something different they're dealing with? Was that all just leaked out on purpose to scare us into locking down? Is China that big of a hell hole that it would be that unsanitary? (yes)

I've stated my skepticism of those videos multiple times in the thread. For a simple, obvious reason: sometimes people collapse. The difference between seeing one now versus a year ago is that a year ago, no one would be freaked out over coronavirus by a video of someone randomly collapsing a year ago, and so it wouldn't trend.

How do you think you solve programming problems in the real world?

I have lots of copy pastaed functions from assorted google searches embedded in various programs. Reinventing the wheel is pointless and a waste of time and money.
you have lots of copy-pasta pajeet droppings in your code. At the very least write your own implementation using the code as a basis so you can understand what it's doing. You'll more than likely make it more efficient if you do.

Yeah, that's the weird thing about it. When we mass tested nursing home residents it turned out a lot of them were actually asymptomatic carriers. These are people who will get killed by a UTI but they're somehow able to shrug off COVID-19 like they never had it.

There's been no good explanation for why symptoms vary so damn much in their severity.

Keeping this generic as possible to avoid power leveling.

I wouldn't say lots. At best 1 or 2 functions here or there for certain projects. Bits and pieces to do discrete non business rule specific tedious tasks. For example I don't want to waste time doing some UI bullshit while my time would be better spent working on core data analysis and decision support functionality.

Other times I will be looking for other people's code to see how they interface with other systems. So I can take them apart and see if I can find something new or useful to enhance how my own tools interface with other systems.

Most of the code I reuse is my own. Recombining existing classes to form new solutions quickly. I've had to do that A LOT with Corona.

I generally hate to talk coding but the kid's incessant sperging got on my nerves.
