What makes Calvin endearing is not only he is often wrong; it is the fact that both adults and children in the comic know he is full of shit, therefore we get the feeling that, for all his high-brow pretensions, Calvin is only able to sway the opinion of the dumbest of people (the schoolyard bully). In contrast, despite being equally full of shit, Stephen/Stephie has been bending the will of people, and has people apologizing to him left and right. This makes him an unlikeable, irritating twat.
