Absolutely no shock which party he belongs to. How the hell did a virus become a political divide?
When it became likely that the next POTUS would appoint the next SCOTUS judge. At that point, no price is too great to stop the orange nigger from being sworn in. I mean, how long can RBG survive on baby blood?

I honestly wouldn't be that surprised if a lot of this was them trying to turn voters against Trump at this point.

Look no further than the way they cheered on the riots and put the squeeze on small businesses "for their own good".

Given that 99% of the destruction has been in left leaning blue "utopias", and how many of the small businesses are owned by left leaning minorities, that would be one hell of a Stonewall moment.

I think the idea is to cause as much chaos and economic hardship as possible to try to erode people's faith in Trump.

So even though they allowed their cities and economies to collapse, they'll cite it as Trump "failing" to lead America.

I wouldn't put it past Biden to pin all this horseshit as "Trump's America" in his campaign ads later this year.

I agree that's what they are trying to do, but all the damage is taking place in blue cities. These areas will never vote Trump. All the damage in Minneapolis only hurts a deep blue county. The red counties have been untouched, both economically and violently.

Same with Seattle, the city will never vote red. Ever. Same with Atlanta. The city will never vote Red. The rest of the state will, but the rest of the state is not affected by the Atlanta autism. If anything all these outer areas are smugly sitting in their houses enjoying the schadenfreude of the liberal cities burning.

The moderates outside the big cities tire of the constant whining, and this latest round of canceling and burning wont look good on the democrats any better then the weathermen did to derail Nixon or Reagan. Leftests keep trying to affect a popular vote and forget that America is a republic with electoral votes, not a direct democracy.

I decided to cancel my flight to Texas. I am not happy but I figure it would be better if I wait more because I don't want to do a mandatory quarantine when I return home.

That being said, I really want Cuomo's head on a fucking pike.

I hope this dissuades people from voting for Trump...

...so they can vote for Jo Jorgensen instead. :optimistic:

I was thinking about this. Could China have fed bad info? How would they even know what info was bad?

Actually it's not that hard. If I were them I'd allow researchers to publish freely initially, i.e. the default state. There'd be a lot of noise in the initial data - small sample sizes, no control groups, etc- but as the process worked and large scale double-blind studies were published the noise level would drop. As soon as that looked like it was happening I'd just classify all medical papers on COVID as a state secret, which is easy to do in China because almost everything is a state secret.

The end result - you've just fed a load of bad studies to those round-eyes. And in the US this would be particularly effective because fucking idiots have decided that whether or not hydroxychloroquine works is a political issue. Because Trump mentioned it the media decided to cover any stories which showed it was ineffective and bury ones which showed it was effective. So even though a functioning scientific system would be able to purge that bad data given time in the fucked, politicized system we have now that doesn't happen.

I dunno if this happened or not of course but the fact it is possible should be deeply worrying.

It's on my phone too. The interesting thing is you need to install 'a participating app' to activate it.

Incidentally, US cases have gone up a bit since the riots. Which makes sense - black people are disproportionately affected by COVID and ecouraging them to riot means they're not social distancing. Presumably the Democrats, who suported both the lock down and the riots will start whining about a 'second wave' and use that as an excuse to re-lockdown. This will fuck the economy and make it more likely that incumbents lose in November. Plus of course the media is full of stories saying 'Trump supporters oppose BLM and hence are racists'.

Meanwhile in the UK it looks like they're bottoming out

Since the UK doesn't have the Democratic Party, it didn't have riots and hence no 'second wave'.

One thing I don't understand is that the worldmeter UK numbers, which cite UK government announcements, are higher than the numbers on this UK government site even though the overal curve looks similar.

Or they're simply setting up "The UK didn't have Trump, and it's handling covid better, therefore Trump ruined our covid response!". Never mind that they've been calling Boris Johnson a cheap Trump knockoff for a little while now.

Am interesting op ed in science, on the topic of immunity. Thoughtful, well written and unbiased.
Archive : http://archive.is/BMcv2

This is what has been speculated on here before my me and others - the infection and illness pattern we see if very hard to explain using purely risk factor groups. We are seeing asymptomatic hundred year olds - that wouldn’t happen if this was purely risk factors dictating who gets sick.
What this op ed says, is that it looks like a much more complex picture than naive to virus-> get virus -> antibodies to virus-> immune to virus. There seems to be some T cell mediated immunity, and some innate immunity (as you’d expect.)
It’s going to take a lot of work to untangle why a lot of people don’t get sick at all - it’s possible (probable) that they’ve encountered something sufficiently similar before that gives them a degree of immunity. Coronaviruses are quite common across many animals, so maybe something we’ve encountered before. Or it could even be a different pathogen which leaves some T cells that can deal with corona.
Of course that still doesn’t explain why some people seem to get so ill - have they not encountered ‘whatever it is’ before? Or do they have some other underlying susceptibility?

the op ed points to a number of pre prints which are worth a read.

I personally am cautiously optimistic about this - he notes that SARS patients have long lasting T cell mediated immunity for example. I suspect we won’t see reinfections, at least not on any scale. It may make vaccine development a bit more complex though.

The immune system is mind bogglingly complex. This will be a very interesting and fruitful research field, that’s hopefully going to throw up some better tools to profile those kind of T cell mediated immunity. Will watch with interest.

Do you happen to know how long the "mandatory quarantine" is in effect for? I'm supposed to go to North Carolina in August and I really don't want to cancel.

It's pretty dumb because I'm just going camping in the blue ridge mountains in an area that hardly has any cases, I think it should be fine and I doubt some quarantine squad will come after me...but in the off chance that they do it would really fuck me up to have to be out of work for 2 weeks.

I don't even know how they plan on enforcing this.

I'm amazed Yahoo allowed this to be published on their platform so I'm putting it here.

So one quote from this which is worth just picking apart

“This has led to speculation about whether a population can achieve some sort of immunity to the virus with as little as 20% infected – a proportion well below the widely accepted herd immunity threshold (60-70%).”

They’re misunderstanding how that percentage is arrived at. It’s not a set figure, it depends heavily on the r0 value. So measles for example which is infectious as hell (r0 is an outlier at 18 or so) needs an immunity of 95% or something. But it also depends on the susceptible population. If x% of the population are already immune, that herd immunity percentage drops.

very rough back of a fag packet calculation but if the r0 is 2.5, you need a herd immunity level of 60%. If they’re saying it’s burning out after 20% that means that at least 40% of the population already had some degree of immunity. A bigger r0 that gives 70-% needed meams half of the population were already immune.
Finding out to why and to what is going to be great fun.

So, for people who live in areas where masks are mandated by the state/county, how is that going for you? Is everyone really being forced to wear the mask? The first day of the mandate, all the stores looked roughly the same. But two days later, I noticed stores in plazas putting on a show of solidarity and force. They all had the exact same sign out front (hand written on a white board) saying they would turn anyone away without a face mask, and had a hovering worker outside to enforce (don't envy that person). Even my favorite liquor store, which hasn't done much this entire time, jumped in on the fun. However, I noticed stores that stand alone (have their own parking lot, not attached to anything), had much less enforcement and compliance. Kroger gives the least shit, they couldn't possibly try any less. I mostly shop there.

The stores need to band together to enforce this, because the police already said they ain't touching this with a 5 ft pole. Everyone already fucking hates the cops, the last thing they need is video of them beating some black guy for not masking up in Safeway. WA really tried to make it a misdemeanor, and impose a fine on people. But there is some debate over whether the governor has the ability to pass laws like that. It's all sketchy as hell, and I feel bad for the minimum wage workers who have to enforce the state's will. They don't get paid enough to do that. At the same time, I'm hoping for some chimp out videos.

I am not sure. I'd like to hope it won't be too long (and when it does, I am jumping on that shit because I just want to see my boyfriend damnit).

Indeed. In that direction, here's a good article from Reason.

Added: another good article from Reason on another aspect of the ChiCom Flu. Hey, saw somewhere that Crazy Joe would mandate everyone wear masks if he became President. Just another reason not to vote for this turd.

In my part of LA, everyone is wearing masks. I haven’t seen any official enforcement, but I’ve been wearing mine so there’s no reason they’d come for me.
My buddy in Phoenix tried to go into a grocery store without one and was chased down by a terrified clerk who offered her a disposible mask from as far away as possible.
