Anyone reasonable is on the second half, the forums aren't even any good anymore and you can just go on discord if you want what passes for a 'community.'

It costs fuck all to set up a new forum, for that matter. I don't know why some people are so wedded to keeping the community on the current forums.

I think that a lot of people will leave no matter what happens with the current forums, making the idea of keeping the community together a pipedream.

I'm going to gaypost about SA here.

The $10 entry fee was SA's secret sauce. It minimized the whitenoise posters by providing a miniscule barrier to entry. It removed the worst of the shit posting from the informative threads, and provided an incentive for people to not be total fucking retards. This was also back before Online Shopping had truly exploded so buying something with a credit card was still sort of rare.

The problem was when the Admins shifted from being sociopaths where everyone was in the joke to becoming so thin skinned they couldn't take as good as they got, and just enforcing their own opinions and having gay grudges. The barrier to entry, that incentive that stopped being total tards also stopped them from being able to speak truth to power and that's how you have Aatrek being a child molester being protected until incontrovertible proof posted off-site where it couldn't be banned. And even then they banned people for posting it on SA until critical mass was reached and they couldn't contain it anymore.

This is all to say you can't revitalize or rehab the forum. It was a one-time event you can't replicate. Even if you tried to make something where you pre-seed neoSA with funny creatives, its only a matter of time until they start slap fighting about sharing the spotlight or you have a bunch of tards come in to try to replicate their success and fail.

There is no "community". There is just people reluctant to change. That's it. This is why there was not 800,000 banme's as everyone Spartacuses rather than continue to support an abuser leaving only the most hardened Chris Brown fans.

Eh, you're mostly right. I try to stick to relevant interest ones like firearms but even those are inundated with troons and weebs. Troons owning firearms is seriously worrying to me because none of them are on the same plane of existence as mentally stable.

SA's early years were so thematically focused on making fun of the original Internet echo chambers that amplified people's personality disorders - "the Internet makes you stupid," after all. This was of course when that kind of thing was 1% of the problem it is now. The forums got captured by those very people really early on. Even the ones who left before the big political takeover of the site were basket cases like Fistgrrl, Ozma, and Elpintogrande who all haven't had a real job since the Clinton administration and have lengthy histories of ridiculous behavior that boils down to "entire existence is wrapped up in online drama and forums cred." EPG was even funny from time to time (Fashion SWAT is still one of the better things SA produced) but he's 100% a terminally online nutjob. In retrospect the transition from making fun of online psychosis to being run by it was inevitable because the site just got too big to avoid breeding its own generation of posters divorced from reality. People going to seemingly indefensible lengths like covering up child abuse to defend their own position on the forums staff is going to happen at that point.

Speaking of which, the $10 fee and how spending money online was still niche helped foster that mentality so many goons had of the boards being some kind of secret brotherhood. Obviously it wasn't a brotherhood, nor secret, but that paywall kept out the vast majority of people who would use forums. SA was an escape from the snarky assiduous pedantic faggots of yesteryear that dominated internet discussion, and actually did a good job keeping out those retards. That's what gave so many goons the idea that any forums outside of SA are cancer: their ideas of what internet discussion is like outside of SA is stuck in the early '00s. They were whipped by the strict moderation into keeping their heads down, and never seemed to notice that the SA they started on hasn't been run by the same people for a very long time.

That whole "secret brotherhood" notion also helped a whole lot of random scammers in SA mart, who'd only eat a permaban as punishment, no matter how much goon cash they swindled. There was a whole "It's by a GOON and it's GOON RECOMMENDED and it's GOON APPROVED so it must be good!!!!" mantra there, and boy oh boy did goons keep falling flat on their faces over that notion.

I guess it's safe to say that Lowtax accidentally started a cult, never realized he was a cult leader. still managed to rake in metric shitloads of money, but was so fucking incompetent that everything blew up in his face in the stupidest way imaginable.
